Sex Is Good For Your Health- Dr. Stella Eze

Good and regular marital sex can help you live a longer and happier life. According to Dr Stella Eze, a gynaecologist with a Lagos based private hospital, MAY Hospital, Ilasa. Good sex not only promotes longevity but also keeps diseases such as the deadly breast cancer away. In an interview with IMOH ESSIEN, Dr. Eze describes sex, particularly between married couples as beautiful and specially designed by God and nature to keep people in good shape all year round. Here are some of the benefits of sex as listed by Dr. Eze, when you click read more….

Sex can cure headaches

Some of the health benefits of sex are its ability to act as a pain reliever. The hormone oxytocin (a nine amino acid peptide that is synthesized in hypothalamic neurons and transported down axons of the posterior pituitary
for secretion into blood) secretes within your body whenever you engage in sexual activity. Because of this secretion, endorphins (hormone-like chemicals that bear a close functional resemblance to morphine) are released. When a person is aroused or excited, oxytocin levels not only begin to increase, they are the reason that orgasms come about. Studies have shown that a rise in oxytocin levels can relieve pain; everything from headaches, cramps and overall body aches can be diminished with a simple roll in the hay.

Sex reduces stress and aids sleep

A recent survey revealed that people who have more sex reported that they felt more at ease, happier and learned how to handle stress better. After an orgasm, an intense wave of calm and relaxation overcomes humans (that’s why men usually fall asleep) and it’s a time when people can truly liberate themselves and let go. Plenty of people who enjoy a regular dose of sex convey that they sleep much better during the night and feel alive and refreshed throughout the day. So, one of the health benefits of sex is a better night’s sleep, which allows you to handle day-to-day stress much more efficiently.

Sex increases sufficient blood flow

It goes without saying that when we get aroused our blood starts to pump at a quicker rate and, thus, blood flow to our brain increases. Both an increased heart rate and more blood pumping through the brain result in better performance (in and out of the bedroom). What this ultimately means is that the fresh supply of blood pumping through your body provides the organs with a healthy dose of oxygen and rids the body of old and wasteful products. So, another health benefit of sex is a cleansed system. Treat your temple right with the help of a little excitement.

Regular marital sex improves Fountain of youth

Although the orgasm is sometimes referred to as the “little death,” having at least two orgasms a week can increase your life span. Every time you reach orgasm, the hormone DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) increases in response to sexual excitement and ejaculation. DHEA can boost your immune system, repair tissue, improve cognition, keep skin healthy, and even work as an antidepressant. Therefore, a health benefit of sex if you keep the orgasms coming is potentially a longer life. It’s quite evident that there are many health benefits of sex. It increases brain power, heart rate, it can help fend off diseases and ailments, and it makes individuals feel good about themselves. In today’s stressful society, it has become a little more difficult to engage in intimate sexuality as often, but as long as you incessantly make the effort, you’ll realize that it’s always worth it. The health benefits of sex will make you feel wonderful within and without and you will gradually notice that the more sex you have, the more bounce you will have in each step. Happiness isn’t sex itself, but sex does ultimately play a role in human happiness.

A Califonia mom feeds child with Baby formula mixed with bacardi

A California mom is accused of mixing booze with her 5-month-old daughter's baby formula and then feeding it to her.
Iesha Hill, 26, was arrested Saturday in Stockton after she realized her daughter had alcohol in her system and took her to the hospital, according to Fox 40.
Hill's mother, 44-year-old Tressie Piggee, says the whole thing was an accident. Baby formula had been made with a bottle of what appeared to be water on Friday night -- but the unlabeled bottle turned out to be Bacardi, she told News 10.
The next morning, the mother noticed the little girl's head wobbling.
"That's when Iesha opened the bottle to see if there was something wrong with the formula -- and smelled alcohol," Piggee said. "We feel bad for the baby because she's up there suffering right now because of our mistakes."
The baby was taken to the hospital for treatment. She was in stable condition but under close watch on Sunday.
"A 5-month-old baby ingesting any amount of alcohol, that's definitely a serious situation which has to be dealt with immediately," Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva told Fox 40.
Hill faces child abuse and endangerment charges, and the incident is still under investigation.

Christian Obodo Speaks On How He Was Kidnapped And Rescued

"I couldn't believe it. I was on my way to church and I had just parked my car when six boys, very young boys, just came to me and started ordering me to come with them.

"I told them to take it easy, that I would do what they say, and they took me to their car, blindfolded me and drove away. I asked where we were going, and they said Port Harcourt, then Benin, then Asaba.

Instead, when they took off the blindfold, we were in a forest. That night, I slept on the ground.

"But they were very nice to me. They didn't touch me. They didn't take any of my jewellery or wallet or anything else. We were just talking like old friends. They assured me that nothing would happen to me.

"I even prayed with them. Then the next morning, they started to move again. It was later that I discovered that it was because the whole state had been covered by security operatives. They told me all the roads, even the rivers and creeks were being watched by security." Click to continue reading.....
"They said it was somebody close to me who set everything up. Someone that I have been helping.

They said the person told them I would be in that church by 8am that morning. I couldn't believe it. But they asked how they would know my movement to go and wait for me there. I didn't know what to say."

Most kidnappings take at least a week to resolve, but one day was all it took in this case, and Obodo played his part.

"Five of them left to go and get the money, leaving me with one of them. But he later said we had to leave this place because the area was being monitored. He told me to promise him that I would not shout or run away. I told him I'd been cooperating since they took me and since they had promised to release me that day, I would do what he said.

"When we got to the town, he got a call informing him that two or three of them had been captured.

"I heard the other one telling him to take me back and tie me up in the forest.

"At that point, I told myself I wasn't going back into that forest. So I told him that it's possible his people wanted to betray him, that they may have taken the money and run. I asked him to let me call my people to find out if the money had been picked up.

"He agreed, but said he did not have credit on his phone, so we would have to walk back into the village to buy airtime. As we were walking back to the village, we saw a group of people sitting around, so we stopped to ask for a recharge card. They said they didn't have it there.

"He now said we should move on to the next place. At that point, I pushed him and started running and screaming that I am Chris Obodo and that they should help. The people immediately gathered. Luckily, they also had some vigilante people around, they call them Black Beret, and they came and got me.

"The police were also nearby, because they had been tracking them through the phonecalls. That was when I started crying and giving thanks to God. That is how I got out."

Despite the trauma, Obodo says he has no immediate plans to stop returning home to Warri: "It won't stop me from going to Warri. That is where I have lived all my life. I'm a Warri boy and it's not like I go out anyhow. Whenever I come home, I play football, three-a-side, in my compound with my friends, I don't go out clubbing like I used to when I was much younger, so why should I stop coming?"

He did, however, admit that the experience will leave scars.

"When something like this happens, you learn a lot. It opened my eyes to a lot of things."

Obodo said he is grateful for the groundswell of support. "I just want to thank everybody. My family got a lot of calls, a lot of support, and we just want to thank everyone."

The Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has ordered 24-hours security for Obodo throughout the duration of his vacation in the state.

Nigeria's grief and gaping spectators

Rescuers and firefighters work among the wreckage
In our series of viewpoints from African journalists, Sola Odunfa looks at how the tragic loss of 153 lives at the Dana Air crash in Lagos sparked an outpouring of nationwide mourning and grief.
No-one in Nigeria was prepared for the horrific tragedy which occurred near Lagos on the 3 June.
It has been a long, long time since the entire nation was so thrown into genuine grief by a single incident.
From the south to the north, east to west, sorrow engulfed the country as if each household nationwide was mourning a private loss.
This is the quality of our common humanity.
Tragic news I decided to spend that Sunday as quietly as possible, alone, watching television comedy and amusing myself with suitable entrees on Facebook.
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan visits the site of the Dana Air crash President Goodluck Jonathan was unable to contain his emotions when he visited the site of the crash
All was well until late in the afternoon when the BBC correspondent Will Ross came in clutching his laptop as usual.
In his relatively short time in Nigeria, Will seems to have dropped the British impersonal "hello" and has instead imbibed the Nigerian tradition of greeting people heartily.
He said the proper "Good afternoon, Sola" but hurried into his office.
I responded appropriately and followed him into his office to at least find out more about the big story that was chasing him on this happy day.
Will looked grey and could not talk as he set up his laptop.
He flapped his arms momentarily and dropped them.
"A plane crash."
I got the message.
"Where?" I shouted.
"Lagos."

Start Quote

Who would not shed tears at the news that a party of 10 girls from Lagos, who were radiant bridesmaids at a society wedding in Abuja the previous day, all died in the crash?”
I noticed that his eyes were red.
I ran out to the outer office and tuned the TV to a domestic news station.
The tragic news was streaming at the bottom of the screen.
I became agitated and without thinking, I started working the epileptic phone, seeking information from officials, colleagues and friends with appropriate connections.
The Dana airplane, which took off with 153 passengers, including 12 children from Abuja, crashed into a street in the densely populated Iju town just outside Lagos.
Watched by scores of horrified residents in their houses and on the streets, the screams of trapped passengers, their unspeakable terror in the burning fuselage.
One's imagination had no limits.
Gaping spectators As expected, thousands of residents and their Sunday visitors rushed to the scene.
They got there alright, but all they could do was gape at the horror before them and wail.
They were not medics, they were not trained rescuers, they were merely there to satisfy their curiosity.
A man uses a cell phone to photograph himself in front of the Dana Air crash wreckage in Lagos Some spectators used their mobile phones to post images on social networking sites
Their best response was to throw water in buckets and plastic sachets at the periphery of the fire.
Indeed, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
The huge crowds were officially, at best, a nuisance - for when the search and rescue teams arrived, all the access roads to the area were blocked by rock-solid human walls.
The officials were incapacitated for hours during which the inferno played itself out over its 153 human victims.
The area was secured the following morning for the rescuers to work seriously but by then there was no-one to be rescued.
By Monday morning, internet social media sites and cell phones were filled with mourning texts by friends of the victims.
The victims were listed with their full descriptions.
No accident in Nigerian history has ever been given such coverage by citizens.
Lost promise Most of the victims were young upwardly mobile persons, they were well educated, they were in jobs which gave them social exposure.
They were lively, they were symbols of the new generation of Nigerians in the professions.
I did not know anyone of them personally but who would not shed tears at the news that a party of 10 girls from Lagos, who were radiant bridesmaids at a society wedding in Abuja the previous day, all died in the crash.
Who would shrug off news of the gruesome death of a young family of six on the same flight.
And in Lagos, a woman who has completed all arrangements for her daughter's wedding in September is asking sympathisers to her residence. Who will wear her wedding gown now?
And in the Ikeja capital of Lagos State, a cake ordered by the children for their father's birthday is sitting on the dining table at their residence.
Their father and mother died in the Sunday crash, 48 hours to his birthday.
How many orphans and widows did the crash create?
Their own tears may never dry.

Man jailed for 'fingering' 5-year-old girl

Ahmed Kabir, 40, claims he did it because he is not married
A Chief Magistrates' Court sitting in Katsina, on Wednesday, sentenced one Ahmed Kabir, 40, to one year imprisonment for inserting his finger in the private part of a five-year-old girl.

Prosecutor Okolo Usman had told the court that Kabir lured the girl into his room and committed the act; during which she sustained an injury.

According to him, the "gross indecency" was contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code.

Kabir pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for leniency, saying he was a first offender. He told the court that he committed the offence because he had no wife.

Delivering judgment on the case, Chief Magistrate Nuraddeen Jikamshi sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment to serve as deterrent to others; and advised him to be of good behaviour after serving his jail term

Unilag: Jonathan writes NASS to ratify name

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, sent a bill to the Senate and the House of Representatives seeking endorsement to rename the University of Lagos, UNILAG to Moshood Abiola University, Lagos.

Dana Airline refutes claims of poor maintenance

Says it is too early to speculate cause of crash
ARTICLE
Dana Airline has refuted claims that Sunday's fatal plane crash in Lagos, was caused by poor maintenance.

Speaking on Wednesday, at a World Press Conference in Lagos, the company's Director, Francis Ogboro, said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the crash or "that two engines had failed."

"This will only be confirmed after the report of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority," he said.

Following the crash, there was public outcry over the state of the aircraft and the role of the regulatory bodies in the aviation industry.

The country was thrown into a state of mourning by the news that all 153 passengers booked on the flight had lost their lives.

But Ogboro disclosed that the company's Chief Engineer "was also on the flight."

"No captain or airline staff would go on a suicide mission," he said.

The press briefing, which was organised to update the public on developments in the aftermath of the plane crash, had representatives of Dana Airline, its insurance companies and the Lagos State government, in attendance.

Dana denies licence withdrawal

Ogboro also denied that the airline's licence has been withdrawn by the federal government, claiming it was only grounded for routine checks.

"Every time there is an incident like this, aircraft of that type are grounded for checks and that's what happened," he said.

He added that Dana Airline had ceased operations even before the routine suspension took effect.

Reacting to claims that principal officials of Dana Airline had fled the country, Ogboro also denied saying that a director that was out of the country at the time of the incident had flown back in.

He said, "You can go to the airport as I speak with you, the chairman of the company is there, the managing director is there."

Ogboro also denied allegations that the Dana aircraft that crashed on its way from Abuja to Lagos, had flown several routes on that day.

He added that the aircraft that purportedly had hydraulic problems was not the same plane that crashed.

Families to get compensation

Concerning the compensation of families affected by the crash, Ogboro assured of the company's readiness to adequately compensate such people for their loss.

Otunba Yomi Osikoya, who stood in for Lloyds of London, Dana Airline's Insurance company, said his company would not compensate below international standard.

Osikoya said airlines are required to provide $30,000 as initial compensation to each claimer within 30 days of  an accident "leading to death or injury."

"But a substantive imposed a ceiling of $100,000 for each victim," he added.

Controversy over the number of victims

Meanwhile, the State Attorney General, Ade Ipaye, said a total of 149 bodies had been recovered from the crash site after the clean up exercise.

"Fifty-two identifiable bodies are at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital morgue, while 97 charred remains that could not be identified were taken to Mainland Hospital," he said.

The total recovery made however, falls short of the earlier figure of 153 passengers along with some residents, who were said to have lost their lives in the incident.

However, Ipaye described the latest casualty figure as tentative, which could be subject to change after a scientific process of identification is carried out.

"It's possible for a body bag to have more than one persons at the end of the day," he continued.

He however urged relations of the dead victims to exercise some patience as autopsies were being carried out for identification and record purposes.

Ipaye said that the delay in the collection of corpses would eventually assist families in claiming compensations.

"Hopefully, we are going to finish with the bodies that are identifiable by tomorrow (Thursday)," he said.

The Chief Medical Examiner, John Obafunwa, disclosed that his team had already carried out autopsy on 12 identifiable bodies, and that 18 would be done by Wednesday evening.

"The whole process, including for the 97 bodies that are not identifiable, should not take more than two weeks," he said

BREAKING NEWS: Senate orders FG to ground DANAplanes, asks NCAA boss, Demuren, to step aside

The lawmakers say the airline should be barred from operating flights until investigations are completed The Senate has asked the Federal Government to ground all planes belonging to DANA Airline until investigations are completed into Sunday's deadly crash which killed 153 passengers and crew and unknown number of people on ground. At plenary Tuesday morning, the upper legislative chamber also ordered the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demuren, to step aside until the conclusion of investigation into the accident. Besides, the senators want aviation authorities in the country to conduct an audit of the airlines in the country with a view to determining their airworthiness. The lawmakers made the resolution following a motion by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzondinma (PDP, Imo). The lower House had said Monday it would hold a legislative inquiry into the crash separate from government's planned investigations. The chairman House committee on media, Zakari Mohammed, said an ad hoc committee will be named to investigate the cause of one of the nation's most horrific air accidents. Also, the senate had said Monday it would support sweeping probe not only on Dana air, but the entire aviation industry, an indicator the chamber may not launch its own investigation but may be planning to back the government's probe instead of conducting a separate one. All 153 passengers and crew members aboard the plane died while an unexpected number, expected to be huge too, were killed in the buildings and the neighborhood the jet smashed into. Mr. Mohammed (PDP-Kwara), said details of the probe will be announced on Tuesday when the House meets. "We cannot fold our arms and allow this to be swept under the carpet. We will support all relevant agencies of government to get to the root of the tragedy. We want to know why it happened," he said. "We want to, for once, unravel what is responsible for that national calamity. The lawmaker said the probe, which is to establish the age of the aircraft, its airworthiness. "We are interested in the nature of the aircraft, the age of the aircraft. Is it supposed to fly in our airspace? We will be very strict on this as the blackbox does not lie. It will tell everything that happened," he said. The Senate demanded a thorough investigation of all airlines in the country in a statement by Spokesman, Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP-Abia). "Senate demands nothing, but a holistic investigation of the remote and immediate causes of the plane crash. "Senate would also insist that the probe this time should not be limited to Dana Airlines and their fleet, but all the airlines operating in Nigeria. Mr. Abaribe said, "We had thought that Nigeria had landed in the golden era of safe aviation industry, where all the standard codes that conform with international best practices were being complied with."

Presidency denies complicity in Dana Air crash

The Presidency denies any complicity in the Dana crash saying the first lady arrived Lagos a day before the catastrophe and was not scheduled to leave until a day after the incident The Presidency has described as “callous, inhuman and devilish” rumours making the rounds that the first lady, Patience Jonathan, was responsible for the Dana plane crash that led to the death of over 150 people, including the 146 passengers on board. The rumour, which had been circulating through emails, facebook messages, and other new media outlets, was that the Dana flight was prevented from landing at the Murtala Muhammed airport in Lagos because the airspace was closed for Mrs. Jonathan’s arrival about the same time. The presidency through the Special Assistant to the President, Office of the First Lady, Ayo Osinlu, however described the rumour as false. "We consider it callous, inhuman and devilish for anyone to have thought of wrapping such national calamity in political garb by insinuating that the plane crashed because the airspace was closed for the First Lady’s movement in Lagos,” Mr. Osinlu stated. The spokesman explained that Mrs. Jonathan arrived in Lagos a day before the air crash saying “the First Lady arrived Lagos at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, 2nd June, 2012 for a private engagement and was billed to leave for Abuja on Monday, 4th June, 2012 in compliance with her itinerary.” Mr. Osinlu further explained that Mrs. Jonathan was at an event in Lagos when the plane crashed. “She (Mrs. Jonathan) was at a public event on Sunday when the accident occurred and promptly abandoned the ceremony as a mark of respect for the victims and retired to the State House, Marina,” he said. “Mrs. Jonathan had no intention to travel on Sunday and never did. Like all Nigerians, she has been mourning the dead." The first lady described the rumour as the act of “self-serving,” people, saying “this is the time for all Nigerians to be sober and pray for the repose of the souls of the victims and not a time to subordinate the interests of our nation to narrow self-serving interests.”

Bruce and Demi's daughter Scout arrested in NYC

New York City police say the underage daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis was caught drinking in public and carrying fake identification. The New York Police Department said Tuesday that officers found 20-year-old Scout Willis sipping a beer Monday evening in Union Square in violation of an open-container law. Police say she also showed them a fake ID — a misdemeanor. Willis was arrested and taken to a local police station and released with a ticket ordering her to appear in court on July 21. Bruce Willis' representative declined to comment on the arrest. Scout is the second of Moore and Willis' three daughters together. The couple divorced in 2000.

DANA AIR CRASH CONSPIRACY:Did Presidential Jet Conveying Mrs Goodluck Prevent Faulty Dana Plane From Landing Before Crash?

"Is there any way of getting confirmation about news I'm just getting that the Dana plane was distressed for a while but could not make an emergency landing because the airspace was closed for 2 hours for  the Presidential Jet carrying Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan.

Private jet owners who had to hover in the air same time leaked this. This was apparently the reason local news didn't report the crash for so long till CNN and foreign news stations started reporting it.

Local news was 'blacked out' trying to kill the story of the airspace being closed while a distressed plane couldn't land.

It would be shocking if so. Though there was engine failure there was still time for the plane to have landed apparently.

You do know anyway that the airspace is closed for up to 2hours each time the Presidential Jet needs to go into the air? 2 hours for a 15minute take off or landing!

And this jet is used by President, VP, President's wife and if I recall David Mark.

It's almost a daily occurrence I've been told by airline staff when it caught me out on a trip

The truth remains that the President's wife was actually in Lagos to attend the christening of their personal assistant's child at the Oriental hotel.. Lekki. Anyone living on the Lekki axis saw first hand the horrendous traffic caused by the president's wife's visit..and confirmed reports from airport staff who volunteered information, collaborated this fact, that the Lagos airport was actually shut for 2 hours, about the same time the ill fated Dana Plane crashed. This also strongly explains the reason why Aero contractor airplane could not depart Abuja for Lagos at 3:40pm because of the closure of the Lagos airport. This is criminal and one can only imagine the deep sorrow ad-in-finitum (without limit) that the families of these unfortunate Nigerians and other nationals are currently plagued into. Grief that is so thick in the air, that one can cut through with a knife...rooted soul searching. Yes we have to and yes we can; beginning from our immediate homes and While we pray for the repose of the souls of the departed, we need as a nation to thoroughly do some deep ommunities.. with time this will snowball into our National consciousness. For how long are we going to sacrifice the lives of our dear brothers and sisters and by extension mortgage the future of their/our children, just for the comfort of our leaders? For a 15 minutes ritual of plane take-off, an airport was shut for 2 hours because our "DEAR FIRST LADY" was scheduled to return to Abuja.. OH merciful God, help Nigeria in Distress!''

NIgerians need to know what happened?who closed the airstrip for two hours on sunday june 3,2012???

Black Sunday: Families of the 153 passengers react to the manifest

The local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos was not like every other day yesterday when members of the deceased families of the ill-fated Dana air plane which crashed in Lagos killing all 153 passengers on board arrived at the airport amid tears to confirm the death of their loved ones.
While waiting for Dana air to announce the manifest of those who boarded the plane, some angry family members and sympathisers had began threaten Dana airline officials for failing to announce the manifest on time. When the manifest was read, families cried uncontrollably as the security officials attempted to hold them back from venting their anger on Dana air officials or doing something strange to themselves.
Speaking to news men at the Airport,  Professor Peter Okebukola, immediate past Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, who may have. Died in the plane if he had travelled as earlier scheduled confirmed the death of four staff of the commission who were on board.
Okebukolar who obviously could not control his emotion referred  to incident as a national disaster.
According to him, “the plane that crashed was supposed to take me to Abuja before we heard the sad news. I am deeply sad. This is a national disaster. As I speak to you now I can confirm to you that NUC lost four staff in the plane crash. The names are Mr Mamud Dokawa, Architect Chinwe Obi, Mrs Shuaibu and professor Nwoleri,  past Vice Chancellor University of Technology, FUTO, Owerri and the leader of the NUC team.
Meanwhile, Special Adviser, Technical to Minister of Aviation, Mr. Victor Oche Elias, disclosed  that the pilot  declared 11 nautical miles to landing while declaring to the aviation authority the emergency situation. It was further disclosed that he was given priority, but the plane could not make it, as it crashed 4 nautical miles to landing.
It has been gathered that the Ill-fated  Dana Air, MC Donnell Douglas MD 83 was faulty even before it was sold to Dana Airline in 2009 by a US-based Alaska Airlines.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed by the Aviation authority that the original owners of the plane has had several diversions as a result of mechanical or technical faults on different occasions before it was sold to Dana Airline.
In related news, official of Dana Air were advised earlier that the plane shouldn’t fly due to some faults noticed in it, but the Indian officials insisted it must fly. German officials had expressed surprise how the plane even made it to Lagos before crashing due to its write-off state.
Dana Air plane conveying passengers from Abuja to Lagos yesterday crashed into buildings around Iju- Agege area of Lagos state, killing all 153 passengers on board.

Lagos Tragedy : How Dana Air Crashed -Eyewitnesses

Residents of Iju-Ishaga, who thronged to the scene of the crash of a Dana aircraft that happened at Popoola Close by Ogunsoya Street, Paul Bus Stop, have given details of how the incident occurred.
P.M.NEWS learnt from them that many of the residents of the area had become suspicious of the aircraft following the way the pilot was attempting to manoeuvre the aircraft which was flying in an unstable manner.
According to many of them who spoke with P.M. NEWS, the large aircraft which government authorities believe had about 153 passengers on board was seen right from the Agbado-Oke Aro area of Ogun State struggling as it hovered overhead houses and eventually crashing with a loud noise that made a lot of residents run out of their houses.
“When this happened, some of us started trailing it but within seconds after we saw it in Oke-Aro area, it crashed at this place,” one of the residents said pointing to the wreckage of the aircraft.
Another resident of the area who gave his name as Adewale Ogunbanwo, said he was sleeping when he heard the sound of the aircraft and ran outside.
“I was looking at it till it crashed.
“The pilot really tried dodging houses and masts till it finally crashed into the warehouse and the storey-building which also had occupants in it.
“It hit a coconut tree, brought down the branches of a mango tree, hit a cow that was tied to a tree before it crashed.
“I am of the opinion that the pilot was actually looking for a safer place for the plane to crash because if not for his effort, it would have resulted in more casualties,” the eye-witness said.
John Sunday, a freelance journalist, who lives around the area told P.M.NEWS that, “from the way I saw the aircraft moving left and right in the air, I started shouting and telling people that the plane was about to crash.
“I had not finished saying so when we heard a loud bang. We rushed to the scene, but it had been engulfed in flames and there was nothing we could do at the stage but to do our best before government agents and security officials began to arrive the scene.”
Another resident of the area said the storey building which the aircraft crashed into had residents and that when they got to the scene, the trapped residents were screaming for help before the aircraft suddenly exploded with the flame engulfing the house.
According to him, of all the residents in the house as at the period, only an 11-year old boy who fell from one of the rooms where he was sleeping could be rescued alive.
“As I’m talking to you now, all the others trapped, shouted till they became silent,” he said.
Sunday Ola, one of the first people to get to the site, said it happened few minutes to 4pm, adding that the pilot actually struggled before he lost control of the aircraft.
He said before the aircraft hit the building, parts of it had started falling off as it hit objects on its way.
“We saw people’s hands stretching out of the parts of the plane that had fallen off.
“One of the passengers was holding a part of the plane as if he wanted to jump out, but the speed did not allow him. I’m very sure that he died with the others,” he said.
As at 8pm on Sunday, the victims were yet to be rescued as officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, the fire fighters, police and other law enforcement agencies made futile attempts to cordon off the area.
The mangled and shattered parts of the aircraft were also scattered everywhere around the scene of the incident as fire still raged.
An official of the Lagos State fire fighting service, who gave his name simply as Rasak, said he got the distress call concerning the crash and immediately summoned his men who had been trying to put out the fire.
According to him, rescue efforts had become difficult owing to the huge crowd at the scene of the incident.
Officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria could not comment as they said it was too early to state exactly what went wrong.
P.M.NEWS however learnt that they had become apprehensive when they lost contact with the aircraft few minutes to landing.
An official of FAAN said airport authority began to make frantic efforts to find it out before they heard of the crash.
While rescue efforts were on, some youths in the area busied themselves as they butchered the dead cow fighting over the pieces of meat.
Some other youths became scavengers as they began picking materials they could lay their hands on at the site of the crash.
When it was getting late and not much had been done, many rescuers began to return home as they believe the rescue efforts would continue on Monday.
They complained about lack of floodlights to ease the task.
