At least 150 Die as South Sudan Marks 5th Independence Anniversary

Fierce overnight artillery and gunfire fight has left more than 100 soldiers dead in South Sudanese capital, Juba, on the fifth anniversary of the country’s independence.
The fight started on Friday evening as President Salva Kiir, first Vice presidentRiek Machar and second Vice President Igga Wani, met to discuss the cause of fighting which left five soldiers dead on Thursday.
South Sudanese local media reported the casualties at 150 deaths, including 36 soldiers from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Opposition (SPLM-IO)loyal to Machar and 80 from President Kiir’s side.

A 41-year-old female preacher was killed early Saturday morning around pipeline area of Kubwa, a satellite town of Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said it has arrested some suspects in connection with the killing.
The FCT command’s Spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.
“We have made some arrests and they are helping in our investigation. The commissioner of police has ordered the homicide section of the command to take over the investigation of the case,” he said.

What happened?

In the wake of the shooting of the Dallas police officers Thursday night during a peaceful protest, police cornered the shooter -- Micah Xavier Johnson -- in a parking garage. After an hours-long standoff that included exchanges of gunfire, they used a robot to deliver an explosive that killed the gunman.

Alton Sterling's family sympathizes with the families of killed Dallas police officers


The family of slain Alton Sterling, who was shot dead by a Baton Rouge, Louisiana cop in a parking lot early Tuesday have sympathized with the family of the killed Dallas Police officers during a Black Lives Matter protest in downtown Dallas last night.

Tanya Sterling, a cousin of the Baton Rouge victim, said she and the family had protested by praying for peace and an end to violence and understand what the family of the killed police officers are going through.
'We have called for justice for Alton and all the other innocent black men shot by the police,' she said. 'But we feel sorry for the officers and their families in Dallas because they will understand what we have been going through.'

Woman caught trafficking young women, including two minors, to China to be sold as brides




A woman believed to have trafficked about 30 women to China to work or be sold as brides was caught and arrested on Tuesday evening, July 5, at a Phnom Penh guesthouse, Cambodia with six potential victims, including two minors.

Thoeun Puthea, 28, was in a room at Dara Guesthouse in Prampi Makara district when police stopped her and six young women who were set to be sent to China by way of Vietnam, according to Keo Thea, director of the municipal anti-human trafficking police. Two of the victims were 17 years old, one was 19, and the rest were in their 20s, an official said. 

We finally know the age of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un

US officials closely monitor North Korea's activities, so it might come as a surprise that we've been missing some basic information on its leader, Kim Jong Un.
But it wasn't until yesterday that the US Treasury Department, after placing sanctions on Kim, officially identified his date of birth as January 8, 1984.
So he's 32 years old.
