An Indiana man was charged Tuesday with three felony weapons violations after authorities say they found three assault rifles and explosive chemicals in his car before a major Los Angeles gay pride parade.
James Wesley Howell, 20, made his first appearance in Los Angeles County Superior Court, where a lawyer entered not guilty pleas on his behalf to charges of possessing an assault weapon, possessing a destructive device on a public street, and importing or manufacturing a large magazine.
He also was charged with a misdemeanor count of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
A judge set bail at $2 million, saying Howell poses "a significant public safety danger."
A federal investigation of Howell was ongoing, said Laura Eimiller, an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles.
Howell was arrested Sunday in Santa Monica, when police say the weapons and explosives were found in a car he apparently drove from Indiana. Howell told police he was headed to a gay pride event in West Hollywood that attracts hundreds of thousands of people.

HILLARY SOARS TO GIGANTIC LEAD

Hillary Clinton took a commanding lead over Donald Trump in a new national poll on Tuesday.
A new Bloomberg Politics poll, conducted by notable pollster Ann Selzer, showed Clinton with a 12-point lead over her Republican rival, garnering 49% support to Trump's 37% support.
The poll surveyed 1,000 voters over three days beginning on June 10, and contained a margin of error of 3.6%.
Though Clinton's lead comes just weeks after polls showed that the two presumptive nominees are running virtually tied in hypothetical general-election matchups, it didn't come as a complete shock to some observers.
After contentious primaries, candidates typically receive a bump in their support in polls after securing their party's nomination. Trump experienced a boost in his support among Republicans after his Republican rivals dropped out following the Indiana primary.

My night with the Russian ultras: "We respect the English tradition of hooliganism, but we no longer fear them"

Russia
Russia
I met him at a bar in the southeast of Moscow.
Vadim was a founder of Flint's Crew, one of Moscow's most infamous football hooligan firms — or ultras as they now prefer to be called — and I had expected him to be shaven-headed and semi-articulate.
My expectations, though, were confounded. Long-haired and about 40 years old, he wasn't a caricature of those who attacked England supporters inside the Stade Vélodrome in Marseilles on Saturday.
Yet he was as passionate and informed about football hooliganism as some people are about wine or art.
"Strange as it may seem, the first football hooligans in Russia were hippies," Vadim told me over the first of several beers.
"It was in the early 1970s, and anything that guys could get their hands on from the West became immediately fashionable.

Concerns had already been raised about the security of fans as England prepare to take on Wales in Lens on Thursday and Russia play Slovakia in Lille on Wednesday, with the cities just 23 miles apart. Witnesses said a group of Russians (top right) provoked English fans who were in a bar near Lille's central train station this afternoon before chairs were launched through the air.
