Australian '60 Minutes' condemned for involvement in alleged kidnapping

Tara Brown and Sally Faulkner
Australia -- The producer behind an Australian television program's involvement in a mother's botched child-snatching operation in Lebanon has lost his job, as the show's founder on Friday dubbed the debacle "the gravest misadventure in the program's history."
The comment by Australia's 60 Minutes founder Gerald Stone came amid the release of a damning internal review into the incident, in which the program paid a so-called child recovery agency to snatch an Australian woman's two children back from her estranged Lebanese husband.
Sally Faulkner said her children's father, Ali al-Amin, took them from their home in Australia to Beirut on a holiday last year and never returned. In April, Faulkner and a 60 Minutes crew covering her story went to Beirut in a bid to get back the children. But after agents hired by 60 Minutes grabbed the children off a Beirut street, the four-member TV crew, Faulkner, two agents from the Britain-based Child Abduction Recovery International company and two Lebanese men were jailed on kidnapping charges.

UK citizen 'who planned to blow up Heathrow airport' gets 40 years in US jail for supporting Al-Qaeda

Minh Quang Pham

A UK citizen who 'planned to blow up Heathrow airport' has been jailed for 40 years in the US for supporting Al-Qaeda.
Ming Quang Pham, aka Amin, had pleaded guilty to three counts of terrorist related activity.
Born in Vietnam, he used to live in New Cross and worked in a London branch of McDonald's - but intended to commit a massacre in his home city.
He is believed to have been personally trained by an Al Qaeda leader to carry out a devastating suicide attack and bomb Heathrow Airport , US court papers claimed.
They claim Pham, 33, was instructed to wear a backpack containing the bomb and target passengers arriving from America and Israel in an arrivals hall.
He was reportedly told by Al Qaeda chief Anwar al-Awlaki, who trained him, to place metal bolts around the bomb to cause as many casualties as possible.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command in London confirmed tonight they have been liaising with their counterparts in New York over the case.
The unit said it provided key evidence that helped "shape the case" against Pham which "led to this successful prosecution".

Amber Heard accuses Johnny Depp of domestic abuse

LOS ANGELES -- A judge has ordered Johnny Depp to stay 100 yards away from his estranged wife, actress Amber Heard.
Heard said in a sworn declaration that Depp threw her cellphone at her during a fight Saturday, striking her cheek and eye. She submitted a picture of her bruised face when she applied for a restraining order Friday.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carl H. Moor also ruled that Depp shouldn't try to contact Heard.
She filed for divorce Monday, citing irreconcilable differences and saying the pair separated the day before. She is seeking spousal support from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star, but Depp's response filed Wednesday asked a judge to deny the request.
Depp and Heard wed in 2015 were married for just 15 months.
Depp's attorney, Laura Wasser, declined to comment. Depp is in Portugal for a performance with his band Hollywood Vampires.
