Davido Releases Statement: I Am Not Wanted By The Police… Vows Not To Succumb To Blackmail

Pop star Davido has released an official statement denying the news of him being declared wanted by the Nigerian Police Force over the on-going assault case involving him and a taxi driver.
Yesterday, Saturday, September 16, 2012, we brought you a story culled from Crime Digest which reported that the Assistant Inspector General of Police had ordered the arrest of the popular pop singer.
Davido, speaking through his manager, Asa Asika in a statement made available to NET has denied that he is hiding as well as debunked the news of his purpoted arrest:
‘I want to assure all my beloved fans and friends that, I am not wanted by the police and no officer in the Nigerian police gave an order for my arrest. I went to the police some weeks ago to give a statement and cleared my name’.
The 19-year-old singer also maintains his earlier innocence that he did not beat up the now-popular Taxi man, Femi Ajibola. The driver had claimed he was assaulted by Davido, but even that is in dispute now as Susan (Davido’s supposed lady-friend who hired the Taxi man’s services), has denied the taxi man’s allegations.
‘I did not beat up any taxi driver and the lady that hired the taxi driver and all those that are involved in this matter have made statements to the police and none of them mentioned my name except the taxi driver who claims that a large sum of money was missing in his taxi. In fact the lady in question stated that she was not beaten by anyone and that nobody assaulted the taxi driver.‘, Davido explains.

He laments that he is being blackmailed but will not give in to it:
‘This is a case of blackmail, and I have resolved not to succumb to any blackmail for money. And to all those that are involved in this conspiracy to bring me down, I want to remind you that God Almighty himself got me to where I am today in my music career and you will not succeed in your devilish efforts to bring me down’.
His manager added, perhaps in response to some insinuations that Davido was in hiding: ‘These are all false. I’m sure you all know we have been in the states shooting videos for the last two weeks’.
Davido is expected back in the country on Sunday, September 23, 2012.

Woman stabs her husband to death in Bayelsa

The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 27 years old woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death in the Azikoro suburb of Yenagoa the state capital.

The woman identified as Osas Omorege according to eyewitnesses stabbed her spouse, Chukwuma Iwu over alleged marital squabbles.

It was gathered that trouble started when the wife of the deceased suspected he was having extra marital affairs due to his alleged late night outings.

The tragic incident which threw the rustic Azikoro settlement into mourning occurred last Friday when the deceased reportedly received a phone call which the wife suspected was from one of his lovers.

The wife’s suspicion and anger over the phone call the source said, might have been fuelled by his alleged absence from home for two days.

“After returning late to his matrimonial home he received a phone call which the wife suspected was coming from his girlfriend and attempted to stop him from answering it”, the source added.

Consequently, a scuffle ensued and the deceased ordered his wife to move out of the house with her belongings, the source further said.

Angered by the wife’s refusal to comply with his order the deceased was said to have reached for a kitchen knife ostensibly to frighten her but she was adamant.

Immediately he dropped the knife, the wife was said to have picked the said knife and stabbed the husband on the chest.

The loud cry of the husband for help attracted neighbours who rushed to the scene and took him to the health facility in the community where he was confirmed dead.

The woman it was learnt turned in herself to the police where she is currently in detention and assisting them in their investigation into the matter.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunna (DSP) confirmed the incident saying the woman voluntarily gave up herself to the police. He said she would be charged to court for murder.

Read About The Xenophobic Article About Actress Yvonne Okoro And Her Family

This is a very long story, one that cannot really be summarized because I want you to fully grasp the crux of the issue before leaving your comments. On my part, I see this matter as a very important one, relating to African unity as a whole and believe that if not quickly, and properly addressed, the situation could degenerate and threaten long standing relationships between Nigerians and Ghanians.

“What I’m is she talking about?”, you may wonder at this junction. I’m talking about the recent Nigerian-Ghanian rivalry which has been brewing for sometime now. The ugly monster has again reared its head through a Ghanian writer, who in a recent publication explained why he thinks Ghanian actress Yvionne Okoro’s sister Rosaline Okoro should not win Miss Ghana 2012 beauty pageant.
His reason: Rosaline Okoro is a legal and not a true Ghanian because her father is originally from Nigeria. It is note worthy to mention at this junction that Yvonne and her sister Rosaline were born and raised in Ghana and have lived in Ghana all their lives. Their father Mr Okoro, though Nigerian has also resided in Ghana for 40 years.
Read the writer’s xenophobic publication HERE.

A very emotional Yvonne Okoro has expressed her complete dismay with the writer’s article that suggested that her younger sister, Rosaline Okoro doesn’t deserve to compete in the ongoing Miss Ghana beauty contest because she isn’t ‘Ghanaian’ enough. She described the article as divisive with xenophobic tendencies and lacking facts.

In a phone interview with the actress who recently won Best Pan African Actress at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, a category for non-Nigerians, she clarified her nationality while addressing ‘frivolous’ issues raised in the said article.

She said: “I realized that the writer didn’t do due diligence in finding out about the person he was writing about, that is my family. You don’t just get up and write an article about somebody’s nationality without knowing the person or at least enquiring from the person.

It is a very sensitive matter because it is not just about me or the Okoro family; it’s about people who live in Ghana, people who live in Africa and the rest of the world in the face of xenophobia.”

According to Yvonne, the author based his argument on the constitution of America without even considering what the constitution of Ghana says on what constitutes Ghanaian citizenship. Here is an excerpt from the article posted on the internet: ????I do not have a problem with Roseline Okoro’s nationality as a Ghanaian. Since one of her parents is a Ghanaian, by law, she is a Ghanaian.

Nationality/Citizenship can be acquired through Birth, Blood (descent) or Naturalization. This means that, by descent/blood, Roseline Okoro is a Ghanaian and SHOULD be able to participate in the Miss Ghana pageant.

However, depending on how an individual becomes a citizen of a country, there are some positions that he or she cannot/shouldn’t hold even though such a person by law is a citizen. For instance, in the United States, only a person who is a citizen by birth can become a President or Vice President. Even that, he/she must have lived in U.S.A for 14 years or more.”

Yvonne explained, that right from the moment she started acting, people have been asking whether she was Nigerian or Ghanaian. “I always say that I am African and it doesn’t matter where I am from. The important thing is that, I am here and I am doing what I have to do. If I had won an award then it would be okay for same people to say Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro has won an award. When my other sister suffered from a racial incident at a restaurant in Accra, they wrote asking how foreigners could come to Ghana and treat our own people in such a manner. So how come when my other sister stands for Miss Ghana they say due to the fact that she is a ‘lesser citizen’ or due to the fact that she doesn’t have a Ghanaian name, she isn’t Ghanaian enough?”

She cited Barack Obama being the President of America as an example of the fact that names do not constitute nationality. She commented, even in Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings who has Scottish lineage became President of the country, and honorable Hanna Tetteh-Kpodar who was born in Hungary has also held several important roles in Government.

She added: “But today my sister stands for Miss Ghana and she is chastised because our mother is Ghanaian and our father is Nigerian? Can you imagine how my father feels? He has been in this country for over 40 years, he has companies in Ghana and so do I. Even my mother is feeling that after all these years we are still not accepted. And for all the other people going through similar situations, it’s not fair.” The actress used her colleague Majid Michel who is half Lebanese and half Fanti as an example, stating that when Majid wins awards he wins it for Ghana. She also stated that Jackie Appiah was born in Canada and she still uses a Canadian passport. She therefore wondered if the simple fact that Jackie uses a Ghanaian surname makes her more Ghanaian.

“We have Ghanaian passports. We have lived all our lives in Ghana, we were born here. Roseline was born at the Police Hospital and I was born at the Ridge Hospital. We speak Twi and we are Fantis. So what is the problem? It was unfair for the writer to speak in the voice of Ghanaians by saying ‘the true Ghanaians will erupt in anger to defend what is rightly theirs’ if Roseline wins Miss Ghana. Who appointed him the voice of Ghana? It is such people that divide Ghanaians, it’s wrong to do that!”

She expressed contentment in the fact that majority of the people who commented on the post when it was published online showed their intelligence on the matter and did not allow the writer to sway them negatively. “It is not fair for someone to sit behind his computer and use his website to defame people and the reputation of their families.

I would say Ghanaians should choose the one who deserves to win the Miss Ghana crown. If it’s not my sister and it’s someone else then it’s all well and good. I know what my sister has; she is a born leader and that’s why I don’t even want to interfere in her affairs. Nobody should try to sabotage the competition.”

After reading through, do you think the writer was being malicious and his publication holds no water? O, are you of the view that he might indeed have a point?

New Twist In Wunmi Adebayo’s Murder: Armed Robber Boyfriend Confesses To Killing Her

After doing the first story about Wunmi(may God rest her soul), an undergrad of Tai Solarin University of Education, many tongues wagged saying that the news going around was a wrong, and that she was actually killed by robbers at her boyfriends house. More over, there were many pieces of the the puzzle of her death that still unsolved. As a result, I thought it will only be fair, to vindicate Wunmi, by getting to the root of the matter, so I kept investigating.

Many criticized me, saying I was being judgmental, and failed to understand that I did the story from my investigations which was yet to be conclusive and even said this: ” that was all I was able to gather about the events that to Wunmi Adebayo’s death”.
I continued to ask questions, and told my sources who are close to the situation to let me know immediately new details come up. Today 15th September 2012, a huge break in the case was made.
According to very reliable sources, who sent me the voice note(which I would upload as soon as I can covert to MP3), Wunmi was indeed killed by a guy she was dating whom she didn’t know was an ARMED ROBBER.
After the news of Wunmi Adebayo’s death broke, the police started their investigations, which led to the arrest of her alledged boyfriend, who was remanded at The elewe eran police station in Abeokuta, but it doesnt end there. The family, I’m told decided to investigate the death of their daughter themselves, and invoked wunmi’s spirit( a common practice in many parts of Nigeria, particularly where the circumstances surrounding the death of a person is suspicious. When this is done, the killer is then tormented by the spirit of the the deceased until he or she confesses.)in other to find out how, and why she was killed.
After being continuously tormented, the alledged boyfriend is said to have confessed to the murder this morning. According to the confession of the robber, Wunmi came to his house unannounced and just barged in. When she entered, she met him and his friends drinking and making merry with guns on the table. On seeing this, Wunmi was shocked, scared and tried to run, but was caught. She was then forced at gun point to go back inside by the guy and his friends. On getting back inside the house, they beat her, raped her, then shot her in other to cover their dark secret. The boyfriend, then shot himself as well, in other to set an alibi for him self and build the “robbery story” which is currently been circulated today. Since Wunmi is no more to tell her story, he thought he would have easily gotten away with the murder, and no one will discover the true nature of what really happened.
The voice note that was sent to me was majorly spoken in Yoruba, read the translations below:
“What happened was they invoked the girl’s spirit. So they said the guy confessed this morning, and said what happened. He said that when Wunmi came his house(Wunmi thought the guy was a yahoo guy, but he was actually an armed robber), and entered, Wunmi saw guns. The guy and his friends put guns on the table, and were drinking alcohol. So as Wunmi barged in, and saw the situation, she ran out. As she ran out, they said followed her, and threatened her to go back into the house else they would shoot her. Out of fear, Wunmi obliged, and followed them back into the house. When she entered back into the house, they then beat her, raped her, and shot her. That is what really happened.”
This is the new turn of events in Wunmi Adebayo’s story, and I would keep you posted should more details unfold.
From all indication, Wunmi was indeed a victim of circumstance. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
