Police, Bank Officials Involved In Bullion Van Accident To Be Prosecuted To Court - CP

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, Alkali Baba Usman, has disclosed that the policemen and officials attached to a billion van escort that caused the accident that shattered the two legs of a middle aged woman along Udu Road, near Warri, Delta State, have been arrested.

CP Usman made the disclosure while answering questions from newsmen after parading 32 cult members at the Warri Area Commander's Office, saying that he got the wind of the accident and ordered the arrest of members of the team and bank officials that attached to the bullion van.

He said that it's an offence for anyone to drive against traffic irrespective of your position in the society, adding that the policemen would be charged to court after investigation to act as a deterrent to others who are fond of looking for short cut to their destinations.

"It's an offence for anybody to drive against the traffic. The bank officials, policemen that are involved in this act have been arrested and we will charge them appropriately for whatever crime they must have committed against the society."

What could have led to break down of law and order was averted along Udu Road, in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, on Monday, following a terrible accident which caused a woman believed to be in her 20s to lose her two legs by a tipper forced out of its lane by a speeding speeding bullion van driving against traffic near Warri.

It was gathered that the speeding bullion van which was being escorted by heavily armed policemen forced the tipper to lose control and went directly to crush the lady against the pavement demarcating the road.

The bullion van, eye witnesses says was ruching to an old generation bank along Udu road which is few metres away from the scene of the accident. It was learnt that the accident occurred around 11am while the victim was waiting to cross the road to withdraw money from an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, belonging to the bank.

Pandemonium almost broke out when sympathizers who had earlier helped to rush the victim to hospital came back to the bank premises that the hospital where she has been taken to demanded for a police extract before she could be attended to.

Following the development, aggrieved youths and women besieged the bank demanding that the bank comes to the rescue of the lady whose two legs has been cut off, a situation which forced mobile police attached to the bank to shoot sporadically to scare sympathizers away.

It was further gathered that the victim was left in her pool of her blood for almost an hour before sympathizers came to help.

The German Chancellor has been criticised for telling a Palestinian girl that her family might be deported because: 'You can't all come.'

Angela Merkel made the comments during a discussion with a group of schoolchildren at an event about 'living in Germany'.

The girl, known as Reem, surprised Merkel when she revealed her family had been waiting for four years to receive permanent residency. 

She added that they could be forced to leave the country because her father could not continue his welding work on a temporary permit.

She said: 'It's really difficult to see that others are really able to enjoy their lives and you yourself can't enjoy it with them.'

According to The Local, the Chancellor hesitated for a minute before replying: 'You are an extremely nice person. 

'You know, in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon there are thousands and thousands [of people]. If we now say "you can all come"... we just can't manage that.' 

The answer left Reem, who has studied for four years in Rostock and is fluent in English and German, in tears. 

Merkel quickly walked over to her to stroke her hair, stating: 'You did a great job'. 

She then tried to explain to the presenter: 'I know it's a difficult situation. That's why I want to comfort her.'

The tense exchange has been widely discussed on social media, with many using the hashtag #Merkelstreichelt (Merkel strokes) alongside their criticisms.

Jan Schnorrenberg, manager of the opposition Green party's youth wing, wrote: 'Explaining to a young girl on live camera that her fate doesn't matter to you - just shameful.'

A release sent out by Merkel's PR team may also have inflamed the situation after it claimed Reem was crying due to agitation at the government's plan to introduce a faster asylum process.

The comments emerged as the Chancellor also revealed she is opposed to gay marriage and believes matrimony should be restricted to just heterosexual couples.

The twice-married Christian said that while she believes anti-gay discrimination must be 'eliminated', she draws the line at same sex marriage because there has to be 'a difference at some point'.

Kurt Angle Hospitalized: Updates on TNA Star's Recovery from Surgery

Just one week after undergoing successful surgery to remove a benign tumor from his neck, TNA star Kurt Angle was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery to remove fluid buildup on his spinal cord.

The six-time TNA world heavyweight champion's condition and the events leading up to the procedure were described by his management via his Twitter account:

The 1996 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling re-signed with the company in December after talk of a potential return to WWE, where he spent the first eight years of his professional wrestling career.

Per Justin Barrasso of SI.com, the 46-year-old veteran attempted to negotiate a potential contract with WWE, but Paul "Triple H" Levesque decided against bringing him in:

Paul [Levesque] is in charge. I found that out when I contacted Vince [McMahon]. I've always had a good relationship with Paul, so I didn't consider that a problem. But he decided they had enough talent. For the Vince McMahon who I knew, enough was never enough. He always wanted more. I don't know what was going on over there, but they even canceled our meeting. WWE's lack of interest led to Angle returning to TNA, where he continues to be one of the company's franchise players.

Angle recently lost the world title to Ethan Carter III, likely in part because he needed time off for neck surgery, but his future is now far more uncertain after the spinal cord scare.

Although his management made mention of the doctors' confidence that Angle will make a full recovery, bouncing back from something so serious at the age of 46 could prove very difficult.

Angle's health moving forward should be the primary focus, and regardless of whether the end of his wrestling career is on the horizon, he will always be viewed as one of the all-time greats.
