21-year-old student kills own father in Ogun

The deceased was Senior Advocate of Nigeria
A 21-year-old university undergraduate, Tolani Ajayi, has killed his father, chopped the body to pieces, before dumping the remains in a bush near their home in Ogun State, police said.
The suspect has since being arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
A witness told PREMIUM TIMES that the attack occurred Tuesday after an argument between Tolani and his father, Charles Ajayi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN. The late lawyer had reportedly questioned his son over his attitude and refusal to follow Biblical teachings.
The suspect, a 300 level student of the Department of History and International Relations of Redeemer University, RCCG Camp Ogun State, became infuriated when his father slapped him. In retaliation, Tolani stabbed his father with a knife.
He then hacked the body to pieces, packed the mutilated corpse in a box and dumped it in a nearby bush.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, which, he said, occurred at the Redemption Camp along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
“The shattered body of Barrister Charles Ajayi, 60, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was seen and recovered in a nearby bush at Canaanland Street in the RCCG Camp, in a box after he had been killed by his son,” Mr. Adejobi said.
He said the Tolani was arrested at his father’s home after the corpse was discovered.
Mr. Adejobi told PREMIUM TIMES that the Divisional Police Officer of Redemption Camp, Olaiya Martins, had led a team of detectives and some members of the community to where the body was found. The community members had earlier noticed the strange attitude of the suspect while he dumped the box.
Following the drag marks made by the box, police officers traced the suspect to his home.
Mr. Adejobi said upon interrogation, the suspect lied that his father had gone on evangelism. He later confessed to the crime, Mr. Adejobi said.
He said the exhibits, including the knife and cutlass the suspect used in the attack, were recovered by the police while the corpse had been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.
Mr. Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had sent a team of detectives, led by the officer in charge of Homicide section of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran Abeokuta, to assess the situation and take over the matter for further investigation and necessary action.
The commissioner also sympathised with the family of the deceased.

Censors Board Approves ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ Movie For Showing In Nigeria

#GoodNews: Censors Board Approves ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ Movie For Showing In Nigeria
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton
Biyi Bandele’s “Half Of A Yellow Sun” - a film adaptation of celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Orange Prize-winning novel of the same name – has finally been cleared by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, for release in Nigeria.
The announcement didn’t include a date that the film will eventually be released now that it’s been approved for release. According to the Board’s Corporate Affairs representative, Caesar Kagho, the film has been approved with an “18″ rating, which, based on my research, is the equivalent of an “R” rating in the USA.
This news comes over 2 months after the film was initially set to open in Nigerian theaters (it’s already been released in the USA and the UK, and is already available on home video in both regions).
It was to open in Nigeria, where the film is set, on Friday, April 25, but that didn’t happen, as its release date was postponed, and has since been delayed, due to “delays in getting certification from Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board.”
Government censors said that they delayed the release of the film because “it might incite violence in the country” given its subject matter – specifically, a scene that details a massacre at a northern Nigerian airport – in light of current political turmoil within the country. Nevermind that it’s a film whose backdrop –  the Biafran war, which saw millions killed - is based on fact. I’ve always said, since this all began, that the Censors Board might not be giving Nigerian audiences enough credit, and ultimately, this would likely end up being much ado about nothing, as the noise created by the film’s release delays may actually drowned out any made by audiences about the content, after the film is finally released.
What led to the film’s eventual Census Board approval isn’t yet public information. It was previously reported that the bureau wanted certain scenes to be cut from the film in order for approval to be granted. So maybe we are to assume that the producers of the film accepted the compromise.
In this case, we can probably thank the growing global reach of the source novel’s author (Adichie), who would eventually utilize her influence to pen an op-ed for The New Yorker.
The censors’ action is a knee-jerk political response, yet there is a sense in which it is not entirely unreasonable. Nigeria is on edge, with upcoming elections that will be fiercely contested, religion and ethnicity increasingly politicized, and Boko Haram committing mass murders and abductions. In a political culture already averse to openness, this might seem a particularly appropriate time for censorship. But we cannot hide from our history. Many of Nigeria’s present problems are, arguably, consequences of an ahistorical culture. As a child, I sometimes found rusted bullets in our garden, reminders of how recent the war had been. My parents are still unable to talk in detail about certain war experiences. The past is present, and we are better off acknowledging it and, hopefully, learning from it.
You can read the full insightful piece here.
And director Biyi Bandele followed that up with his own op-ed, sharing his frustrations with the Censors Board, in piece he wrote for CNN’s African Voices, titled “Why can’t Nigerians watch country’s biggest movie?
In the piece, Bandele also chastised the Censors Board, drawing a connection in sentiment between its members and Boko Haram.
Since the Toronto premiere those many months ago, I’ve seen “Half of a Yellow Sun” at other film festivals in all corners of the globe. And Nigerians being the ubiquitous people that we are have been present in the audiences — quite often in great numbers — at each of these festivals. I am yet to meet a single Nigerian who has seen the film who came out of the cinema thinking that they had just seen a film that would incite anyone to violence. If anything, more than once, I’ve been accosted by cinema-goers — some Nigerian, but really, people of all races — who have been profoundly moved by the experience of watching the film. The refrain I’ve heard from them is, war is nasty, isn’t it.
He then called on Patricia Bala, director-general of the Censors board, to do what he believed was the right thing, and allow Nigerians in Nigeria to see the film as it’s meant to be seen; not illegally, speaking to the local movie industry’s piracy problem.
Whether or not the film eventually gets a ratings certificate in Nigeria, “Half of a Yellow Sun” will be seen by millions of Nigerians. The question is: will they be allowed to see it in their local cinemas and on legally acquired DVDs or will they be forced to watch it on pirate DVDs and through illegal downloads? If the biggest film that’s ever been made in Nigeria is available to Nigerians only in bootleg form, the censorship board will be doing to the Nigerian film industry what Boko Haram is trying to do to Nigeria: drive a stake through its heart. I sincerely hope they both fail.
Biyi Bandele’s feature film directorial debut, stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, John Boyega, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle and Genevieve Nnaji, in a drama that weaves together the lives of four people swept up in the turbulence of civil war, with a newly independent 1960s Nigeria as the backdrop.
Produced by Bafta award-winner Andrea Calderwood (“The Last King of Scotland”) and Gail Ega (“The Constant Gardner”), the film is a British/Nigerian co-production and was shot at Tinapa Film Studio in Nigeria and in the UK.

Kim Kardashian Is Too HOT For New York: Reality Star Stuns In Cleavage Baring Tux [LOOK]
Kim Kardashian
She walked down the aisle in all white, but Kim Kardashian’s famous figure looks pretty amazing in all black.
The 33-year-old newlywed took the plunge once again, and defied gravity as she went braless in a ultra low-cut top which she wore beneath a tuxedo jacket. She finished the look with skinny black pants and nude heels.
Photographers snapped photos of Kardashian as she headed to dinner at Serafina in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district on June 16.
The reality star, who just tied the knot with Kanye West last month, was joined by her pregnant sister, Kourtney Kardashian, who was dressed considerably more conservatively for their dinner date, opting for skinny jeans and a loose-fitting denim shirt.

Day I was raped in Calabar — Alariwo of Africa

Oluwarotimi Martins, known in the music industry as Alariwo of Africa, has been around for a long time and seemed to disappear after his hit song, Yawa Go Gas, an afrobeat single. Even Cable News Network, CNN, was confused the single could have been done by the late Afrobeat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Alariwo-1But Alariwo has resurfaced and ready to take the front-seat again and he is singing his way back to reckoning through his video, Dancia, which featured popular Yoruba actress, Biodun Okeowo, Pasuma and Ajasa. In this interview, Alariwo of Africa speaks on the entertainment industry:
Can you compare the then music industry to now?
The industry is getting better now but we still have some meaningless songs. Because back then, we were singing for fun and not for money. But at the same time, it’s better, as artistes now get paid good money, they get endorsement deals and all other things.
But do you feel threatened by the new artistes?
Why would I, when most of them see me as a source of inspiration to them. They respect and appreciate me a lotEverything in life has got its time and seasons. Also am still relevant and still making money in the industry so I don’t agree to your saying that, they are the ones making it in the industry or if I feel threatened by any of them. They are good but am yet to decide on who to work with.
What was your relationship with Fela?
Fela inspired me to go into the music industry. I was encouraged to play afrobeat back then by my sponsor, Femi Lasode, because according to him, I sounded like him. I never met Fela in my life, I only listened to a lot of Fela’s songs but never met him.
What kind of instrument do you play?
Keyboard. It was my producer, Nelson Brown, who taught me how to play the keyboard
So how do you see the young artistes not being able to play music instruments, and how can it affect their career and the industry?
Most of them play the instruments. It’s not a must to play instruments, but it’s a plus, because of ideas.
There was a video you did where you featured Biodun Okeowo, Why did you feature her or is there any relationship between you both?
She’s my friend, she featured free and nothing is going on between us. I used her in my new video titled, Dancia, featuring Pasuma and Ajasa. And Dancia is my new video after being away for awhile. Also, Dancia, is a local slang for dancing
Was there anything between you and Jennifer Eliogu?
Jenny (Jennifer Eliogu) and I are just friends. It’s only in Nigeria that people misunderstand it when a lady is a friend to a man. I’m man enough to tell you if something is going on between me and anyone
What kind of child were you while growing up?
I was a very playful and stubborn child. But I’ve always been a singer from childhood. Then, my mother was always singing while my father was always playing songs of veterans like Jim Reeves, Don Williams, Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and Victor Olaiya. I was very stubborn which is or was natural. Natural, because I was also very playful.
And were you really sent to the street by your father?
That is not true. My father trained me in a very different and decent way. Though he was very strict, but he made sure we all got the best of education
Was there anytime you sued CNN?
No! What really happened was, my agent in UK wrote to CNN for compensation because they played my song Yawa Go Gas and claimed that it was the music of Fela so they paid for false information.
Do you have any unforgettable moment as an artiste?
Yes, I do, and it was when I was raped in Calabar. It happened long time ago and it is something I haven’t talked about until now. I think the girls were with the rival club of the club where I was performing and they were set out to do it. They were actually two in number. I don’t want to go into the details because it happened long time ago. The second was when I was singing on stage in Benue State and bullets were flying all around in the air . It was in 2001, it’s past and I don’t want to remember it ever again.
And there was a story that you were beaten up by Area boys over a girl?
I haven’t talked about this because it is absolutely false and I don’t want to give it any credence. My management is not happy about it. My wife is not happy about it. I think somebody paid somebody to peddle that story. It never happened and I never knew such a girl.

Update on police assault of pregnant woman in Lagos

Women's rights activists Dr Joe Odumakin has threatened to mobilize all pregnant women for protest if the police officer that assaulted a pregnant women in Lagos is not disciplined.
A clip which surfaced few days ago on the social media, showing a police officer identified as Arthur Okeke harrasing a pregnant woman with disregard for her condition has continued to attract more reactions.
The victim, Mrs. Rashidat Oyelowo Abdulmajeed recounted her experience while speaking to journalists in Lagos. She told of how the police officer conducted himself very embarrassingly. Find the video here
The victim stated that she was slapped and her hijab was also torn during the encounter on the bus with police officer, Mr. Arthur Okeke.

She narrated that the policeman was in a seat behind the one she sat on the bus, and he officer leaned forward, resting his arms on guard of her own seat, but her back was also relaxed on same guard.
The woman said Officer Arthur Okeke ordered her to raise her back from the seat, but she had responded that it was meant for occupant of seats to rest their back on. Besides, she said, she told the officer that she was pregnant.

Officer Arthur began assaulting her thereafter.
"He pulled my hijab from the back and forcefully reclined my head backwards so that my head hung over", she said.

Her narration, which buttressed the visual spreading on the social media, included how the police officer ordered the bus to stop and also asked every passenger to alight so he'd torture her more. She said every passenger condemned his actions, but most of them were under trepidation he might harm them.

While the bus stopped,  the officer also called on another who was directing the traffic, on the road to join him in the act, but he was turned down.

Reacting to the incidence in Lagos, female activist and president of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin who received the victim in her office on Friday, called on the Police Inspector General, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed to take on the erring officer for disciplinary action.

Okei-Odumakin warned that the spate of police indiscriminate molestation of citizens is on the increase and moreso, unacceptable.
"I trust the IG of police that he will take action on this and bring Arthur Okeke to book. But failure to do this, we will mobilize all pregnant Women and protest police brutality on the street for the sake of Mrs. Rasheedat", she said.

Meanwhile, the Police Force has not said anything about disgraceful conduct of the officer, despite many communications to it about the incidence.

Severally, the video has been tweeted, tagging the Police authority on social media with the video, but no single response from the police came on it.

Kanye West gets booed on stage after he launches into '20-min rant'

Kanye West's self-entitlement continued on Friday night after he launched into a 20-minute rant mid performance at the London Wireless Festival. Kanye paused his performance to talk to the crowd about discrimination in the fashion industry and his promise to marry Kim seven years ago.
"People be looking at me like I got a problem or something. Like I’m uncontrollable, that I do what I’m not supposed to do.’ Turning his attention to the media, Kanye said ‘They control everyone with rumours & lies. They steal you from you & sell you back to you.’
To the crowd, Kanye asked: ‘How many people here think they’re awesome and have had people say they’re not their whole lives? What have I ever done other than believe in myself?’
They say they won’t negotiate with celebrities…like I’m a terrorist or stupid. I’m not going to name names, I’m not going to mention any names but... Nike, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Don't discriminate against me 'cos I'm a black man making music.
What he said about Kim and his promise to marry her seven years ago after the cut...

'‘I told Kim seven years ago: ‘I’m going to marry you,’ and I did – all the stuff I talk about, I can back it up. F**k saving face and what it's supposed to mean, it's about living my dream.'
I just wanted to make something awesome and be awesome and change the world, and that's exactly what I plan to do.
Well, after a while, the crowd had enough and started to boo him. They didn't come to hear him whine, they wanted music. After the rant, Kanye continued playing music...

British girl filmed performing sex acts on 24 men for free drinks

A British girl was filmed performing sex acts on 24 men at a nightclub in Majorca's notorious party capital, Magaluf in Spain.

The 18 year old girl (pictured right), whose identity is being hidden, was told by the organizers during an event at a bar called Alex's Bar that she would win a 'holiday' if she participated in a game. But the prize turned out to be a £4 cocktail called 'Holiday' made from gin, vodka, peach schnapps, blackcurrant liqueur and fruit juice.

The girl was cheered on by the crowd as she went from one man to the other, asking them to take down their pants and performed the sex act.
"The girl was being encouraged to drink more and more and was told she would win a 'holiday' if she took part in this game. Unfortunately the 'holiday' turned out to be the name of a cocktail. I feel sorry for her now. She must feel awful.' Someone who witnessed the incident told The Sun
A 2-minute footage, which also showed several holidaymakers taking photos of the act with their phones, was later posted online, causing outrage. The police has launched an inquiry into the incident. Watch the video after the cut...
