Man obsessed with Hannibal Lecter finally faces trial after 'stabbing 17-year-old beauty school student to death'

Jury selection is expected to begin on Monday in the murder trial of a Washington beauty school student who is accused of strangling and stabbing to death his 17-year-old classmate.
Prosecutors said Christopher Scott Wilson, 31, had a fascination with death and corpses when he killed high school senior Mackenzie Cowell in February of 2010, comparing him to a serial-killing character from the television shows Dexter.
Wilson also has an arm tattoo of Hannibal Lecter, the fictional serial killer from Oscar-winning movie Silence of the Lambs.

Wilson was ultimately charged with first-degree murder in a case that shocked the small agricultural city of Wenatchee, the self-described 'Apple Capital of the World'.
The 31-year-old and his alleged victim could hardly be more different. Unlike her grim older classmate, Cowell was a popular girl and a member of her school dance team known as the Apple-Ettes.

Reid Cowell, Mackenzie's father, recalled a driven girl with an ‘unreal schedule,’ juggling high school in the morning, beauty school in the afternoon and dance classes and dance team practice.
‘She would never have gone with anyone she didn't trust,’ Mr Cowell said. ‘The evidence tells me the chances are slim it wasn't him.’

Wilson reportedly rejected a ten-year plea deal after the defense won all of the major pre-trial motions.
Leading the defense team is John Henry Browne, the attorney who also represents the U.S. Army soldier charged in the killing of 17 Afghan villagers in March.
Browne said there are some cases where he encourages clients to plead guilty, even if they are 100 per cent innocent, because the deal is too good to turn down.
During the investigation, police received a letter saying that Wilson talked about enjoying cutting people up while working at funeral homes

‘It's a significant risk for Chris, but he's maintaining his innocence, and I admire that in him,’ Browne said.
On February 9, Cowell left the Academy of Hair Design at around 3pm, telling her friends that she would be back in 15 minutes.
According to court documents, Cowell was last seen driving toward Wilson's home about two blocks away from the school. Police later found her abandoned vehicle five miles away on a rural road. Her purse was still in the car, but her keys and cell phone were missing.
Four days later, police found her body 20 miles away on the edge of the Columbia River. The teenager had been struck in the head, strangled and stabbed to death.
In addition to the fatal wounds, the coroner also determined that someone had tried to amputate one of the girl’s arms after she died.
Over the next seven months, police chased hundreds of leads and interviewed more than 800 people. Ultimately, Wilson was accused of murdering Cowell in his Wenatchee apartment, where police discovered traces of blood.
Three people reported seeing a person, closely matching Wilson's description, walking down the road near where Cowell's car had been abandoned.
DNA found on duct tape near Cowell's body was linked to Wilson. He was charged with the murder in October of 2010.

According to court documents cited by KirovTV, several people contacted police with concerns about Wilson after Cowell disappeared.
One person wrote a letter to police claiming Wilson was obsessed with corpses and serial killers. He also claimed that the 31-year-old tried to choke his female friend, and then acted as if nothing happened.
Another acquaintance claimed that Wilson told her he liked to ‘cut people up’ when he was working at area funeral homes.
However, a judge barred prosecutors from introducing that work history - or mentioning his Hannibal Lecter arm tattoo - at trial.
Due to the media attention surrounding this case, Wilson’s defense team has expressed concerns that it will be difficult to find a pool of potential jurors that have not been tainted by the press coverage over the past two years.
Browne said he has filed a motion for change of venue, but will wait to see if an unbiased jury can be seated.

Once the jury selection gets under way, Browne plans to present several motions, including a request to allow testimony from a police informant who claimed two other men admitted to murdering Cowell. He will also seek to bring the two men to the stand in person, according to the Wenatchee World.
The female informant named Samuel S. Cuevas and Emmanuel ‘Buddha’ Cerros Sanchez in Spring 2010, leading police to eavesdrop on the two men. However, police eventually determined that the two had strong alibis for the time of the murder.
Browne also seeks to suppress photos and a video police believe show the interior of Wilson’s apartment, where Cowell is thought to have died. The images and videos involve Wilson’s friend Tessa Schuyleman, who has been accused of misleading police in the Cowell case, but never charged with any crime.
Police said some of the photos show Schuyleman ‘posing as a dead person’ on the floor of Wilson’s apartment next to a stain. Investigators said the stain is Cowell’s blood, matched directly to her DNA.
Wilson, however, insisted that the stain in the video was spilled water from a marijuana bong, according to defense documents.
If convicted, standard sentencing calls for Wilson to serve 20 to 26 years in prison, but the judge could impose a tougher sentence.

The couple, who met at Harvard and have been going steady for more than nine years, took the plunge in front of an group of fewer than 100 family members and friends, according to People. The surprised guests reportedly thought they had gathered to celebrate Chan's graduation from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday.

The union of the two lovebirds added another momentous event to the 28-year-old's week, who on Friday made one of the most anticipated moves in finance history by taking his company public.

So what does a multi-billionaire give his college-sweetheart-turned-fiancée for a ring? A company spokeswoman said Zuckerberg designed the ring himself which featured "a very simple ruby."
As for kids? The couple currently have one white fluffy one named Beast together.

I Would Like To Work With Rahman –Madonna

Although hugely popular in India, Madonna has somehow never performed for her fans here. Talking about what’s kept her away from the country, she says, “I have not got the chance to tour India, but I would surely love to”.
Ask the international pop icon if she has considered collaborating with India’s very own global musician, AR Rahman, and she says, “I would like to work with him when the opportunity comes, and things work out. Only then will we be able to decide on the music”.
On her last trip to the country in 2007, the musician had visited Jodhpur and Udaipur with her then-husband, Guy Ritchie and her children. Reports had claimed that she even extended her trip by a few days because she loved the desert state so much.
“I really did. I had gone with my family and friends and I completely fell in love with the culture and traditions of Rajasthan. I also heard a few folk songs and saw some traditional dances”, she reveals.
Although at one time the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer was married to a filmmaker, she has not watched any Bollywood films. “But I know they are very colourful and have huge dance sequences. I’m sure I’ll enjoy them,” she says, before talking about their music, “I haven’t heard a lot, but I’m familiar with Indian music.”
Madonna’s recently released 12th album debuted at number one across charts in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy and Spain.
Called MDNA, the compilation even has a few collaborative tracks with American musician Nicki Minaj and Sri Lankan artiste M.I.A.

Father Roasts Son with hot iron

Yussif Adusei
Yussif Adusei with the burnt foot
A father in Kumasi has done the unthinkable by allegedly roasting the right foot of his 8-year-old son with a hot iron, causing severe burns to the KG2 boy who stays with his grandmother at Asafo Dadiesoaba.
The victim, Yussif Adusei, was allegedly injured by his father whose name the young boy only gave as Yussif.
He is said to have ordered the KG2 boy to sit on the bed after which he placed a hot iron on his foot, injuring him severely.
The boy, who is currently in great pain, was admitted to the Emergency Ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Tuesday evening when some journalists of Kessben FM took him there for treatment.
The youngster, who could not walk properly due to the severe injuries he had suffered, said his dad decided to punish him in that weird manner because he claimed he was stubborn.
The disturbing matter which was broken on Kessben FM is being investigated by the Social Welfare in Kumasi, DAILY GUIDE gathered.
Young Yussif claimed his dad, who stays at Afful Nkwanta in Kumasi, cautioned him not to visit his grandmother who stays at Asafo Dadiesoaba, a suburb of Kumasi.
But the eight-year-old boy noted that he failed to obey his dad’s stern warning by deciding to visit the grandmother, one Hajara Fosuwah, an action, he said, infuriated his father to punish him with a hot iron.
The shocking news, which has become the topic for discussion by Kumasi residents, came to the fore when two journalists of Kessben FM saw the boy limping at Asafo Dadiesoaba on Tuesday.
They asked him what caused his injuries and the KG2 boy alleged that his dad placed a hot iron on his foot for some minutes for disobeying him.
Young Yussif claimed that his dad became angry after he decided to visit his grandmother at Asafo despite his dad’s stern warning not to do so; therefore he decided to place the burning iron on his foot.
Meanwhile, the grandmother of Yussif, Hajara Fosuwaa, told DAILY GUIDE that the child’s father was her son called Wahab, and that the boy’s parents were no longer married.
She said the boy was born out of wedlock and that she had been taking care of him since he was born about eight years ago, noting that she did not know the whereabouts of the child’s mother.
According to her, she saw the boy injured in the foot after he returned from his father’s house and when she asked him what had happened, he retorted that his father used hot iron to injure him.
The grandmother, who had been nursing the boy’s sore since the incident occurred, had initially said the boy never told her that his father used a hot iron to injure him, whilst speaking on Kessben FM, the same day.
But when DAILY GUIDE called her on phone, Hajara Fosuwah admitted that the young boy indeed told her that his dad used a hot iron to injure him for being unruly, adding the matter was being investigated by the Department of Social Welfare.
Attempts to get the said Wahab proved futile.

Should Nigeria be Sending Astronauts to Space by 2015?

The declaration by the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Ita Ewa that Nigeria would send astronauts to space by 2015 has sparked up some controversy on news and social media with many arguing that sending astronauts to space is not what Nigeria needs.
The Minister made the declaration yesterday that Nigeria would launch three satellites and send astronauts to space by 2015.
At the ongoing ministerial briefing to commemorate 2012 Democracy Day and anniversary of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Prof. Ewa enumerated the country’s space programme from now to 2028 when it expects to launch a made-in-Nigeria satellite into space. The move, he said, was part of the government efforts to boost the economy through space technology.
In 2015 we are preparing to launch NigeriaSAR-1 satellite. The NigeriaSAR is a security satellite with an acronym that stands for Synthetic Aperture Radar.
“This satellite will have a very high resolution that can cover kilometres, and for a backup of the communication satellite there will be NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-3.
“Also because of the experience we gained in Surrey, UK, we are going to build an Assembly Integration and Testing Centre for satellite technology, it is ongoing but this year we will put in more efforts to that technology.
“And before I leave office in 2015 we will send a Nigerian Astronaut into space.’’
While the effort to boost Nigeria’s space technology is laudable, many have argued that there are other aspects of the economy the government can channel its efforts into. Some say that Nigeria should focus on developing the satellite technology on ground first rather than make plans of going into space. Others say that going to space is going to require a huge capital investment which shouldn’t be the country’s priority now.
What’s your opinion? Is going to space a tall order for Nigeria? Is Nigeria capable of sending astronauts to space by 2015? Should Nigeria be sending astronauts to space now?
Please share your thoughts.

How To Make New Friends

Making friends once you’re out of high school and college can be tricky, but it’s still important to expand your social circle as an adult. To help you get past any misgivings you might have, we put together a guide for making new friends no matter your age.
Friends having coffee together

Importance of friendships

While your to-do list may trump getting out there and seeking a new social circle, don’t discount friendships as something that can help you lead a more fulfilling life. It's easy to get stuck in a rut or wrapped up in your daily routine, but expanding your circle of friends while nurturing the friendships you do have is an important part of staying connected to the world outside our own work and family circle. Not to mention, when we let our friendships fade away, we can find ourselves in situations where we could use a sympathetic ear, a spare set of hands, another perspective or emotional support and we find we have nowhere to turn.

Finding new friends 101

Finding new friends can be as simple as doing something that interests you. If you love to dissect the latest bestsellers, join a book club. If you’re a fitness buff, join a walking club or trade solo workouts for some exercise classes a few days a week and get to know some of the other regular participants. Nature-lover? Check out walking or hiking clubs nearby to meet likeminded individuals. But before you start exchanging numbers with potential new pals, make a list of criteria of what you would ideally like to have as qualities in a friend and then check someone new against your criteria to make sure you have what you want.

Building bonds

With your old friends, the people you’ve known for years, a bond already exists, but with new friends, you have to work harder to create a connection, which involves finding common ground. Rather than just going out for a drink with a new people you meet, plan to do something fun so that you can talk about your experiences together. Doing things with people (playing a sport, attending a class) also helps us get to know them better because we’re seeing how they interact with others as well as with us.
Whether you sign up for a photography course, join a baseball team or take a cooking class, building time into your schedule to reach out to others can only benefit you and improve your life.

Nigerian Pastors and the Lucrative Presidential Prayer Project

Since Goodluck Jonathan ascended the throne of Nigeria as President after the demise of Yaradua , one of his favourite routine has been seeking the face of God in prayer. During the constitutional crisis leading to the death of Yaradua President
Goodluck was made so uncomfortable by different power plays that he had course to receive prayers from different Christian groups genuinely concerned about the precarious fate of Nigeria. Thus one of the first things he did as Acting President was to call on Jasper Akinola, then Primate of the Anglican Communion to suggest names of those to guide him spiritually and oversee the chaplaincy of State House Chapel. Primate Akinola gave him three names from which he appointed a chaplain. On the 9th of May , 2010,days after the demise of Yaradua, president Goodluck walked into the presidential wing of his office for the first time in the company of close aides like Yayale Ahmed, then Secretary to the Federal Government, Ima Niboro, presidential spokesman, Mike Oghadiome, his principal secretary and the Chaplain of Aso Villa ,Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba who offered prayers to God for the peace and progress of the nation before the President performed his first official assignment .

The attempt by President Goodluck to seek divine guidance in the handling of the affairs of Nigeria was hijacked by different groups of religious leaders especially from the different Orthodox and Pentecostal denominations who turned the exercise into a multibillion naira business.
Immediately president Goodluck signified his intention to contest for the Presidency, coupled with the threat of PDP northern elders on zoning, a financial breakthrough came for those spiritual leaders. All manners of prophecies on how Babangida, Atiku and others wanted to kill the President was making rounds. They so much frightened the president with such theories and convinced him of the need to release hundreds of millions of naira to different prayer projects to secure his presidency.
The Christian Association of Nigeria, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and some groups under the Anglican Communion made brisk business out of the situation. Money ranging from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of naira was released numerous times for this prayer project. Some conferences were sponsored by the presidency.
Unknown to the President, he has become a source of mega financial breakthrough for some people. These religious leaders usually organise minister’s conference or pastors meetings and request all attendees to put down their names for onward transmission to the president. They baited the impoverished and unsuspecting pastors and church workers that the President wants to be paying them monthly for prayers for Nigeria. These undiscerning pastors will then struggle to put down their detail which is later forwarded to the presidential prayer coordinators as evidence of a standing prayer squad. Some collected the names of their church workers during workers meetings and forwarded to the prayer coordinators in the State House as evidence of a standing prayer group. They used this tactics to collect money running into billions of naira from the president’s inner campaign fund.
These some of these pastors prophesied to Babangida before the Ciroma Concensus Committee rejected him and preferred Atiku to run on behalf of the north. They then switched over to Atiku and when he was manipulated out of the PDP primaries, they switched over to Goodluck Jonathan. The only person they did not carry the prayer project to was Buhari because they know that only a ‘thank you’ greeting will come out of there. When one of the prophets had a brush with the then governor Ibro of Kogi over the looting of state treasury and the former governor was harassing him with police and security agents, it took a phone call from Nigeria’s evil genius from Minna before the governor withdrew his venom.
When the PDP convention was fast approaching President Goodluck personally visited some mega churches around the Lagos-Ogun axis for political prayers and sent high powered emissaries to others for prayer support. Those privies to those meetings and private discussions noted that there was no attempt by these religious leaders to equally convince the president of the need for a free and fair elections; neither did they impress it upon him to fight corruption, which is Nigeria’s biggest problem. They also failed to encourage him to muster the will to break the various cabals holding Nigeria hostage. They only anointed him with oil; some gave him special Bible, special oil and special handkerchief to use to defeat his electoral enemies. They delivered the message of triumph to him and failed to include the message of service to humanity.
The presidential prayer project was elevated to another proportion when some religious leaders with prophetic anointing were brought into the picture. This group led by a young prophet based in Port Harcourt but who frequents Abuja for special programme at the Women Development Centre, mesmerized the president and his inner caucus with prophecies, calling people by their names, phone numbers, account numbers and other family secrets. By the time he was over he collected his share of the national cake in hundreds of millions of naira which he used to buy a house in Maitama, Abuja. This young prophet confirmed the speculation making rounds in pastoral circles in the nation’s capital that he was given N500 million naira ($3.3million dollars) as National Breakthrough Offering.
His equally young friend and prophet based in Abuja who married a pretty lady with a lavish, celebrity laden wedding reception at Thisday Dome in 2011 was reported to have collected up to N450 million naira ($3million dollars) as prayer  offering. Another Abuja based Pentecostal Bishop from Taraba State was accused of collecting hundreds of millions of naira for a section of the prayer project. He was also rewarded with a  brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep by the President. He has finished a stately designed compact cathedral in the outskirts of Abuja. When some pastors who mobilized their members to constantly pray for the peace of the nation out of patriotism confirmed that indeed billions of naira flowed for prayer project without their knowledge, it created disaffection and some cried foul. The same prayer business that took place in Abuja was replicated all over the country. Religious leaders of all denominations used various styles to benefit from the prayer national cake through links to the president The funds used to sponsor all these prayers were drawn from the inflated subsidy bills which released abundant resources to prosecute the elections.
Weeks before the removal of fuel subsidy, these prayer tycoons saw another opportunity to take their already enhanced financial status to the Bill Gates level. They frightened the presidency with prophecies of how Buhari, Bakare, Babangida, Atiku, Tinubu and Fashola wanted to sponsor fuel subsidy protests and how God wants to deliver him from these evil men. They prescribed prayer and fasting for the president and his inner caucus before the removal of fuel subsidy.  President Goodluck and his inner caucus observed days of fasting and prayers between the 26th and 31stof December, 2011. The principal purpose of the fast was to frustrate the intended fuel subsidy removal protest. When these prayer machines gave enough signals that God have taken control, the announcement of subsidy removal was effected
President Goodluck was shocked at the level of resistance to the fuel subsidy removal. He was equally frightened at the security reports that a continuation of this protest into the second week could precipitate a revolution with unpredictable consequences for the thieving elites. When Nigerian Labour Congress capitulated under controversial circumstances and suspended the mass protests, the prayer groups praised their prayer prowess for labor’s sudden volte-face. They were handsomely rewarded again for averting the popular Occupy Nigeria protest and a possible revolution. For some that managed to scramble a sort of prayer, the focus was on how God should deal mercilessly with Pastor Tunde Bakare and his group of rascals from the kingdom of darkness. Some of them were rewarded with some board appointments especially the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Board in their various states of origin and zones. Others got their cronies into choice appointments in various boards of government parastatals.
The constant harassment of the nation by Boko Haram has become another spiritual money spinner. Various groups are receiving prayer money running into billions of naira in the name of securing the President against Boko Haram attacks. They failed to impress on the   president to expose his fellow party men linked to Boko Haram. This spiritual stance of pampering Boko Haram sponsors while the nation is on fire is a source of disagreement between the   national leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and some of the prayer tycoons. CAN leadership believe that the President is too timid in his handling of terrorism while the merchants believe that the president’s security is of paramount importance. God is yet to give these prayer merchants answer on how the nation can overcome Boko Haram but they have insightful revelations on how the president can escape Boko Haram attacks.
This prayer business has become a multi billion naira breakthrough from the time President Goodluck signified interest in contesting for the presidency. They failed to give Jonathan the much needed spiritual guidance on how to bring about a transformed Nigeria, devoid of corruption, mediocrity, lawlessness and injustice. They failed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as illustrated by Apostle Paul in Romans Chapter 8 verse 9 which says that ‘’ For the earnest expectation of creation awaits the manifestation of the sons of God’’ implying that impoverished Nigerians believed that probably President Goodluck is the much awaited God sent leader who will pull down the cabal that had feasted on the collective commonwealth of Nigerians. They see divine visions on how all the enemies of Goodluck will be crushed but no vision yet on how to bring peace to the troubled nation. This is indeed a season of breakthrough for these servants of God.

If you missed the feature, here is the movie’s story line
Brilliant cancer specialist Dr. Michael Durant is emotionally troubled, wrestling with the traumatic loss of his 10 year old daughter from cancer. Immersing himself in his work from the hospital, away from his wife who blames him for their child’s death, he forms an unlikely bond with a sick, loving, but rambunctious seven year old boy Sam, the son of a rich Jewish couple who are major contributors to the hospital’s cancer research fund.
Unfortunately, Sam’s health deteriorates drastically, and soon, he slips into a coma, with only a few days to live. Dr. Durant becomes desperate, willing to risk anything to save the child’s life. A surreptitious Nigerian Nurse convinces him to seek the help of Dr. Bello, an uncertified Nigerian Doctor, known in Brooklyn-African underground as a miracle worker.
Dr. Bello, an introvert with a controversial past, secretly visits the child at night and administers a strange African potion, replete with incantations and by the next morning, miraculously, the child begins to recover, the cancer speeding into remission.
The hospital medical board immediately orders an investigation and soon the secret is revealed and Dr. Durant is suspended. Dr. Bello is arrested and charged with medical malpractices. Dr. Durant soon falls into depression after his wife leaves him. Meanwhile, Dr. Bello has fallen critically ill in jail and can only be saved by the ingestion of that same potion that can only be found in the mysterious “garden of life” nestled on the peak of Nigeria”s sky mountains.
