“I Forgive My Husband, But…” – Mercy Nnadi’s Husband Killed Her Son, Burnt Her With Hot Pressing Iron

To many residents of the Okota area of Lagos, Mercy Nnadi’s issue is a forgotten one, as they assume that she did not survive the third degree burns she sustained from the attack by her spouse. But how wrong they are! The 36-year-old Mercy, whose husband killed their only son eight months ago, and burnt her with hot pressing iron over allegation that she was having an affair with his father, the very woman who once looked a shadow of her old self, is back to life.

She is presently occupying a one-room apartment in Agege area of Lagos, courtesy of three Non-Governmental Organisations: Project Alert on Violence Against Women, Centa for Development, and Zaharawomen. Aside the apartment, the NGOs also gave her the sum of N150, 000 to start life afresh.

Even in the light of all this, in this exclusive interview Mercy said nothing could fill the vacuum created by the demise of her son, Ebuka, who was barely one-year-old then. Although she stated that she had forgiven her husband for making her go through untold anguish, she vowed never to reunite with him again.

Recalling the incident of Saturday, April 7, 2012, which almost sent her to an unprepared grave, Mercy recalled amidst tears: “On that fateful Saturday evening, my husband told me to cook yam for supper before leaving the house. After a long wait for him to come back so that we could eat together, I ate mine and slept with my baby.

“When he came back, he ate, put on the power generating set before going to bed. Later, a neighbor knocked on the door to inform us that power had been restored, and he [the husband] went to put off the power generating set. He came inside and started ironing customers clothes because he is a dry cleaner.

“By then, the room became hot and I left to take a shower and stayed outside waiting for when he would be through. When he was done, he told me to fetch water for him to bathe, and I did. While I was going to fetch the water, he started smoking before going to take his bath. We both retired inside and I slept off after breast-feeding our baby, Ebuka.

“But a sharp pain woke me up from sleep. At first, I thought I was dreaming. But no! Right in front of me was my husband of two years, placing the hot pressing iron on me. I screamed and begged him to stop. When I raised my hand to stop him, he placed the hot iron on the hand.

“I lifted my leg to prevent him from further attack, only for him to place it on my thighs, instructing me to keep quiet. As if that was not enough, as he placed the hot iron on me, he used a screw driver to pull off the skin, pressing the hot iron harder on the same spot. As he was doing it, he kept asking me how many times his father had slept with me.

“I begged him passionately, but he would not listen. He warned me to keep quiet informing that other members of his gang were outside. I did not know what he meant by that.

“He concentrated more on my chest, by leaving the hot iron there for what seemed like eternity. Just then, our son Ebuka, woke up crying. I begged my husband to allow me breast feed him, so he could go back to sleep. Instead, he placed the pressing iron on my two breasts and at the same time used the screw driver to peel off the skin.

“I shouted for help. But it was far from me. At that point, he took my son away. Immediately he left the room, I rushed out to the kitchen where a neighbor offered me a wrapper to cover my nakedness. That was all I could remember until I found myself at New Evolution hospital”.

While Mercy succeeded in escaping from the shadow of death, same could not be said of her helpless son, Ebuka. Eyewitnesses said Henry dragged the crying baby by his left arm.

As gathered, Henry landed a metal right on Ebuka’s head, thereby prompting him to let out a shrill cry, which forced out some excreta. As if the pains were not excruciating enough for the fragile baby, his father, who, many concluded, was possessed by a demon, landed the metal again on his head.

This time around, instead of crying, there was dead silence, which sent the hapless Ebuka to the land of no return, with his remains buried a few days later.

News of my son’s death shattered me

All through her stay in the hospital, Mercy was made to believe that her son was in good condition of health. Thus, when she was discharged, she yearned to see Ebuka. But nobody could tell her the true position of things until she visited Ago Police division, where the case was earlier incidented – only to be consoled by one of the policemen who was oblivious of the development.

“Initially, I did not get what the policeman was trying to say. But after a while, I discovered it had to do with my son Ebuka. I broke down in tears, without knowing what to do. I kept asking why Henry would kill an innocent child over nothing? I was shattered by the news of my son’s death.

“Oh! My son died without being allowed to have the last suck of my breast milk.

“The last memory I have of him was when he woke up crying. How callous! He was the reason for my hanging on in the marriage because I never wanted to have a broken home. Had he been alive, he would have been my only consolation”, Mercy stated amidst tears.

I forgive my husband, but…

Asked if she would accept her husband back if he comes begging, Mercy smiled, saying: “I have forgiven him no doubt. But I will never go back to him. I learnt he is in Ikoyi prison awaiting trial. I was told he called his younger sister and asked if I was okay and even told her to give me the phone so he could speak with me. I tried the number once but it rang without response.

“My mind is made up. The only thing that would have made me have a re-think is my son. But since he is no more, nothing is worth my staying back.

“That was not the first time he would beat me. I have always complained to my father-in-law about his batterings and he had always cautioned him. At a point, he warned his father to stop interfering in his family matter and further told him to stop coming to our house. He also stopped me from going to his father’s house, warning that he would break my leg if I disobeyed him.”

My neighbors fled on sighting me

In order to make do her threat of leaving Henry, Mercy visited number 3 Lambe street, in Ago-Okota, which used to be her matrimonial home, to move her belongings. But a mild drama unfolded as those who recognized her took to their heels, apparently thinking it was her ghost.

“I was shocked at first. But I was later made to understand that news went round that I was dead. They later came around to thank God with me. As I was leaving with my belongings, I bid farewell to what used to be home…”

At this point, she wept profusely, on remembering how her son used to crawl on the veranda of the building. After satisfying her emotions, she expressed gratitude to God for at least sparing her life and giving her a second chance.

”Even though I know that the death of my son has left a vacuum that will never be replaced in my life, I am still grateful to God for granting me the privilege of being alive”.

“That I am alive today is by the grace of God and help from good Nigerians. These Nigerians whom I never knew from Adam, had compassion on me and donated money for my treatment.

“Even the first lady of Akwa-Ibom state came to my rescue by paying over 300,000 for my treatment and feeding. Ah! Can you imagine, a nobody like me gaining such recognition! Isn’t God wonderful? My sincere gratitude goes to the management team of New Evolution Hospital who managed the situation when I was rushed in , until I was transferred to government hospital.

“I really did not know when I was taken there. Even when I regained consciousness, I could not bathe and clean myself. The nurses were there for me. What more can I say about my father in-law, his wife and daughter, they were by my side all through.

“My appreciation will be incomplete if I fail to mention the three NGOs that gave voice to my cry. They went as far as involving the Lagos state government and in the process, offset my outstanding bills at New Evolution hospital and even gave me shelter at Ipaja before I was given an accommodation in Agege. From the donations they got from members of the public, I was given the sum of N150,000 to start life afresh”

Again, she paused, fiddled with her nails and by the time she looked up, it was obvious she was fighting hard to hold back the tears. But she could not as they trickled down her cheeks.

In an emotion-laden voice, she said, “I wish my son was alive, then my joy would have been complete. I honestly wished I was given the accommodation money, I would have relocated back to my village because I do not want anything that would remind me of the death of my first experience of motherhood”.

Speaking on behalf of the NGOs during the formal rehabilitation of Mercy at the conference room of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation WAPA, Alausa, Lagos, the Executive Director, Project Alert on Violence Against Women, Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, said, “We sought to help Mercy pay her steadily mounting hospital bills, and rehabilitate her. We are proud to say we have been able to accomplish all these, along with some funds for her to start life afresh”.

A popular hip-hop artist has canceled concert stops in Charlotte and Greensboro for this weekend after online death threats.
A Maybach Music Group concert tour headlining Rick Ross was scheduled to appear Friday in Greensboro and Saturday at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. Rappers Wale and Meek Mill were scheduled to appear as well.
Tickets can be refunded starting Friday, Live Nation Entertainment group said in a statement.
In a YouTube rap video, the North Carolina chapter of the Gangster Disciples warned Ross about coming to Charlotte and Greensboro. Apparently the Disciples were angered that Ross had “dishonored” a gang leader and that he was using gang symbols in a disrespectful manner.
“I think fans should be concerned. I think the parents should be concerned because you never know,” said Paul Scott, a minister from Durham who is also a hip-hop journalist.
“No one took the Tupac-Notorious BIG beef seriously until they were both dead,” he said, referring to rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, both slain in 1996.
Deon Cole is a friend of Ross’ and is also assistant programming director for WPEG-FM (Power 98) in Charlotte. He didn’t believe that fans had anything to worry about and said that Ross and the Disciples would work out their problems.
Before the concert was canceled, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police had released a statement Wednesday, saying officers would remain vigilant to ensure safety at the event.

One Million Moms is once again going after Ellen DeGeneres.

Last February, the conservative group — a project of the American Family Association – called for JC Penney to fire DeGeneres as its spokesperson because she’s openly gay.

Now, the organization has renewed its campaign against the TV personality after JC Penney began airing a new Christmas ad featuring DeGeneres.

One Million Moms wrote on its website on Tuesday, “Since April, JC Penney’s has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now,” adding, “A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again.”

“Christians must now vote with their wallets,” continued the statement.

Last March, the group dropped its protest against DeGeneres after JC Penney expressed its continued support for the comedienne.

At the time, the host responded to the attack on her talk show, saying “haters are my motivators.”

Prince William & Kate Middleton Release Statement After Hospital Worker’s Suicide

A hospital worker, Jacintha Saldanha, committed suicide after two shock DJs pulled an awful prank on her. The DJs pretended to be the Queen and Prince Phillip and asked to speak to the Duchess. Saldanha was helping out at the reception desk and fell for the joke so she switched the line to a nurse who divulged personal, medical information to the shock DJs and was found dead earlier today. The nurse was found unconscious at the hospital she works for at about 9:30 this morning. The Austrian shock DJs have since quit and released a statement saying that they are sorry for the actions they took. Read what the Price and Duchess said below.

A representative for Prince William and Kate Middleton, who is in the hospital for severe morning sickness, said they were “deeply saddened” by Saldanha’s death, along with “Their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.” Saldanha was a mother of two children.

Man Allegedly Kills Pregnant Lover

In recent time, the reports about men and violent, unexplainable acts towards women seems to be on the rise.
Just last week, I reported how a man, for reasons yet unknown bathed his estranged lover with acid. Now, another report by PUNCH reveals how another man reportedly killed his lover somewhere in Ayobo, Ogun state.
According to PUNCH:

The family of a lady, Gloria Akpan, has accused their daughter’s lover, Ita Eyo, of killing her in his residence in Ayobo area of Ogun State.

Gloria and Eyo both from Akwa Ibom State had been cohabiting since March 2012 before the sad incident occurred on November 3. The lady was six-month pregnant before she died.

A family source, who craved anonymity, said when he spoke to Gloria on Friday, a day before her death, she told him that all was well, adding that it was shocking to learn that she had died the next day.
The source said, “Without seeing any member of the family, that same Saturday, they hurriedly buried her.
“This is suspicious. The information we got was that she was strangled as she bled through her nose and mouth.”
Father of the deceased, Mr. Edet Akpan, 66, a retiree of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, corroborated the family source, insisting that his child was murdered.
Akpan said amid sobs, that Eyo, had in March this year asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage.
He said it was a transport operator, simply called Akintunde that brought Eyo to their home at NDLEA Compound at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Expectedly, Akpan said during the meeting, he told Eyo to come with his people when they were ready.
Akpan said, “After that meeting, I travelled to my country home in Akwa Ibom. Since I have retired, I have been alternating between home and Lagos.
“While I was still in my hometown, my wife, Gloria’s stepmother, phoned me. She said my daughter had moved out of the house. I exclaimed, ‘move to where?’ She said she had gone to Eyo’s house.
“She also said it was Eyo’s friend, Akintunde that came to take her to the place.
“The news jolted me and I had to rush back to Lagos. When I came back, I set out to search for her whereabouts but my effort was unsuccessful as I neither knew the address of Akintunde nor Eyo’s.”
He said he later got Akintunde on the phone.
Akpan said when he called Akintunde, Eyo and Gloria were with him.
He said, “When I got Akintunde on the phone, he handed the phone over to Eyo. After quarrelling with Eyo, I asked him to pass the phone to Gloria and he did.
“Gloria told me she was well and assured me that she would come home soon. I even asked of my grandson whom she took along with her and she said he was okay.”
Akpan lamented that instead of his daughter coming back home, the news he got the following day was that she had died.
He said, “On Saturday, Akintunde and a woman, came to inform me that my daughter had died. I was confused. I took them to my elder brother’s house. My elder brother asked them to deposit her corpse in the mortuary for further action.
“The same day, I asked my son to go to Eyo’s house. My son told me that they had buried my daughter. This was done without the knowledge of any member of the family. We find the development curious. This is somebody he was not married to. That is why we believe my daughter was murdered for some sinister purposes.”
He said another reason he suspected Eyo was culpable in his daughter’s death was the account of an eyewitness, Gloria’s son, who was living with them.
Akpan said his grandson, who Gloria had for another man, told him that on the fateful day, Eyo and his mother had a disagreement resulting in Eyo pulling something out of the bed and hitting her several times before she died.
He said he headed for a nearby police station in Ikeja, Lagos where they detailed three policemen to arrest Akintunde.
He said with the aid of the policemen, Akintunde took them to Eyo’s house in Ayobo, Ogun State.
He said when they got to Ayobo, it was discovered that that the part where Eyo lives is within the jurisdiction of Ogun State Police Command.
From there, he went to Itele Police Station in Ota, Ogun State where some policemen were detailed to arrest Eyo.
He said Eyo was currently being held at Itele Police Station.
He appealed to the relevant authorities to bring the killer of his daughter to justice.
A police source at Itele Police Division said the Commissioner of Police, Ogun Command, had directed that the matter be taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department.
The source, who did not want his name mentioned, said the Divisional Crime Officer confirmed that the suspect was still being detained.
However, he said the father of the deceased had refused to show up, stressing that the suspect claimed he (Akpan) consented to the burial of his daughter.
“The matter is a murder case; the suspect is still being detained. The Commissioner of Police has directed that the matter be taken to the SCID, Abeokuta,” the source said.

Woman Beats Son To Death For Not Learning The Quaran, Burns Corpse

                                                                     
A British jury on Wednesday found a mother who beat her seven-year-old son to death for failing to learn the Quran by heart guilty of murdering him and burning his body to hide the evidence.
33-year-old Sara Ege, a mathematics graduate from India, treated her son Yaseen Ali like a “dog”, beating him with a stick when he failed to memorize religious texts.


Yaseen died in July 2010. It was initially thought that he had been killed in a fire at the family home in Pontcanna, Cardiff, but tests later revealed that he was dead before the blaze began.
Ege denied killing her son, but blamed her husband instead. Yousef Ege, 38, was later cleared of failing to prevent the death of his son.
Sara Ege confessed to the murder, but later retracted the confession saying she had been forced into it by a threat of violence from her husband and his family.
Ege was found guilty of murder and of perverting the course of justice, and will be sentenced next year.
In her confession, which was recorded by police and shown to the jury, Ege detailed how her son had collapsed on the day of his death still murmuring extracts from the Koran, the holy book of Islam.
She described undressing Yaseen when he collapsed and soiled himself, then dragging him to the kitchen to feed him milk.
The child was left lying naked on the kitchen floor still reciting extracts from the Koran as she poured him the drink.
He took only a few sips before his mother dragged and pushed him to his bedroom and told him to get dressed.
When he proved incapable she dressed him herself and left him on a rug by his bed, claiming she believed he had fallen asleep.
Ten minutes later she returned to find Yaseen shaking and shivering on the floor and gulping a final breath before dying.
Ege decided to burn his body and went to fetch barbecue gel from the kitchen. She told police she decided to destroy his corpse because “I was too nervous”.
She claimed she could not stop herself beating her son and repeatedly pledged to God that she would not do it again, but her good intentions only lasted a few days.
The court heard how, after she was charged with murder, Ege had what appears to have been a breakdown and was sent to a psychiatric unit for several months. At various times she claimed to have been motivated by voices from the devil. Indeed.
